In your role, you will be expected to ensure that students who interact with you have a high-quality experience that supports the vision of the institution.
Purpose of Position
The program coordinator works in close coordination with the Assistant Provost to develop, support, and operate community engagement initiatives. The purpose of this position is to be an active team player in the Scripps Howard Center for Civic Engagement in developing and executing programs and events that engage NKU classes and students with community partners - providing benefits to both.
Primary Responsibilities
The coordinator's primary responsibility is to support, as assigned, specific programs, program aspects, or special initiatives. Support includes:

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Organizing or co-organizing a program, initiative, or partnership.
  • Attending to the details and logistics that make a program, initiative, or partnership succeed.
  • Communicating to the right audiences the existence of a program, initiative, or partnership in order to maximize participation.
  • Provide budgetary support associated with a program, initiative, or partnership so that funding is both sufficient and efficient.
  • Assessing a program, initiative, or partnership so that its success (or failure) is known, and improvements can be made to future programs, initiatives, or partnerships.
  • Supervising one or more student interns to help with these tasks.
  • Participating in professional development and communities of practice around community engagement activities

Programming in the Scripps Howard Center for Civic Engagement is varied and dynamic. With that in mind, the person hired for this position should be creative, flexible, and well-organized.

The Center's primary community engagement programming includes support of service learning classes, operation of NKU's Mayerson Student Philanthropy Project, voter registration and education, a public lecture series, and a variety of collaborations with campus and community partners that foster NKU's goal to encourage students to be stewards of place.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate for this job would have substantive experience in higher education and with the community and civic engagement. The candidate should have a passion for connecting our classrooms to community projects that further both students' academic learning, their commitment to citizenship and democracy, and their commitment to being stewards of place.

  • Create and manage campus/community partnerships.
