Position: Scientific Writer/Editor, Office of the Chief Scientific Officer

Location: Boston, MA

Schedule: 40 hours per week, Hybrid

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Scientific Writer will play a key role in writing and editing articles and evaluation reports in partnership with research faculty related to the Hospital's research and clinical innovation. The Scientific Writer will edit and proofread manuscripts, format references, format final manuscripts and figures to meet specific journal requirements. Will assist faculty in their response to reviewer comments. This position also will organize and host writing sessions for research faculty, and will provide education about scientific writing.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Works with faculty and staff to organize and draft scientific manuscripts and manuscripts that detail hospital led innovations

  • Works with faculty and staff to set timelines for writing and submission

  • Collaborates with researchers, subject matter experts, and other stakeholders to ensure accuracy, clarity, and relevance of scientific content. Edits and proofreads manuscripts

  • Works with faculty and staff to write responses to reviewer comments

  • Conducts literature reviews and research to support content development and stay abreast of the latest scientific advancements and trends. Formats manuscripts according to journal requirements

  • Ensures that all content adheres to relevant guidelines, standards, and regulations, including formatting requirements and ethical considerations. Assists in the preparation and submission of scientific manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals.

  • Provides editorial support for scientific documents, including proofreading, fact-checking, and formatting.

  • Holds writing sessions with cohorts of faculty, and educates faculty about scientific writing

JOB REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor's degree in a scientific field (e.g., biology, chemistry, biomedical sciences, etc.); advanced degree (MSc or PhD) preferred but not required.

EXPERIENCE:

  • 5-10 years of related work experience with at least two years of writing and/or editing experience

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

  • Advanced proficiency use of desktop productivity tools including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint

  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and deliver required products in a timely manner

  • Must be well-organized and detail oriented with a commitment to producing analytic product that consistently meets the highest standards of accuracy

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the demonstrated ability to effectively work with multidisciplinary teams in a team oriented environment.

  • Strong understanding of scientific research methodologies, data analysis techniques, and statistical methods. Experience with ethical conduct of research preferred, but not required
