Job Description Summary
The School of Communication and Journalism at Auburn University seeks candidates for an Lecturer position in Public Speaking in Communication beginning August 16, 2024.

Responsibilities: This is a nine-month, non-tenure track, full-time teaching faculty position in the undergraduate communication program. The position may be renewed annually by mutual agreement based on the availability of funds, the need for services, and satisfactory performance.

This is a teaching-intensive position in the undergraduate Communication Public Speaking program. The primary responsibility of the successful candidate is to teach COMM 1000 Public Speaking (the basic speech course). The candidate will teach four in-person, on-campus courses per semester and is expected to be an engaged member of the School by serving on committees. The successful candidate will also work with the basic course director to train and mentor graduate students who teach COMM 1000. Opportunities for summer teaching are possible, subject to need and availability of funds. Responsibilities also include service to the School.
Minimum Qualifications
A master's degree by time of appointment in communication or a comparable degree and evidence of excellent teaching in public speaking courses. The Lecturer appointment requires an earned master's degree by the August 16, 2024, start date. If the candidate fails to complete the degree by the designated date, the offer will be withdrawn.

The candidate selected for this position must be able to meet eligibility requirements to work in the United States at the time the appointment is scheduled to begin and continue working legally for the proposed term of employment; excellent communication skills required.
Desired Qualifications
In addition to strong, positive teaching evaluations, the candidate should evidence a demonstrated ability to: teach within, and follow the policies and procedures of, a large multi-section public speaking basic course program; engage in proactive communication with the program supervisor/course director; and actively contribute to the program and its initiatives (e.g., flexibility, service, collegiality, etc.).
