Departmental Overview

The Innovative Genomics Institute uses genome engineering approaches to tackle challenging problems in health, climate, and sustainable agriculture.

Responsibilities

• Reads scientific manuscripts.
• Designs and clones plasmids to be used for genome engineering of organoids and to knock out genes of interest in organoids.
• Performs experimental design, specifically identifying appropriate dose response ranges of growth factors, cytokines, and small molecule inhibitors to test on organoids.
• Manages tissue culture work (conditioned media preparation, organoid cultivation, genome editing organoids).
• Performs microscopy guided manual plucking of individual organoid clones.
• Selects optimal technique depending on well size, matrigel droplet size, and organoid size.
• Assists with equipment setup, building lab databases for reagents and protocols.

Required Qualifications

• Familiarity with CRISPR editing approaches.
• Experience with propagating and genetically modifying intestinal organoids.

Preferred Qualifications

• Tissue culture work experience.
• Background in cancer research.
• Familiarity with cytokine signaling.

This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, analysis of internal equity, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience.

The budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $58,490.82 (step 1.0) - $69,905.85 (step 10.0).

• This is a 100%, full-time (40 hours per week), career position that is eligible for full UC benefits.
• This position is exempt and paid monthly.
