Job Summary

The postdoc hired for this project will work with Dr. Ausborn and other members of the lab on the investigation of neural circuits underlying turning movements in mice. To this end, they will (1) employ modern machine learning and data science techniques and develop new approaches as needed to investigate turning movements in freely moving mice using data from our collaborators, (2) develop computational models of the underlying neural circuits, and (3) perform simulation experiments using these models. Further job duties include figure and manuscript preparation for publication, present work at seminars and meetings, read relevant literature, assist in the training of more junior lab members, meet regularly with the supervisor and other lab members and collaborators, and perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Essential Functions

  • Analyze experimental data from our collaborators.
  • Develop computational models of spinal locomotor networks for turning.
  • Run simulations and analyze model performance and derive testable predictions.
  • Coordinate data analysis and interpretation, model development and experimental studies of experimental collaborators.
  • Present findings at national and international conferences and at internal seminars.
  • Write and submit research manuscripts.
  • Assist in training other lab members and meet with lab members, collaborators, and supervisor.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Education Requirements

  • Minimum of a PhD or Doctorate in Mathematics, Computer science, computational neuroscience, biomedical engineering, data science or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years predoctoral level research.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Programming skills in Python, C++, Matlab
  • Experience using Machine Learning Libraries such as PyTorch, TensorFlow, Keras etc.

Additional Information

This position is classified as Exempt, grade I. Compensation for this grade ranges from $ 41,120.00 to $ 61,680.00 per year. Please note that the offered rate for this position typically aligns with the minimum to midrange of this grade, but it can vary based on the successful candidate's qualifications and experience, department budget, and an internal equity review.
