Purpose of Position

The Simulator Maintenance Technician Apprentice is a temporary (120 day or less) position intended to augment academic training with hands on experience between first and second year of higher learning.

The Apprentice will be exposed to the day-to-day maintenance of KC-46 aircrew training devices, which include the Weapon System Trainer (WST), Boom Operator Trainer (BOT), Fuselage Trainer (FuT), Part-Task Trainers (PTT), and Learning Center. Skills learned include basic knowledge and experience to solve routine technical tasks or system problems; those that typically may be performed solely by reference to maintenance manuals or similar documents. Candidates will be supervised at all times by certified Technicians.

Tasks and Responsibilities

Candidates will be exposed to the following skills in device system and subsystem while directly supervised IAW accepted practices and/or standard operating procedures.

  • Gain technical/non-technical knowledge to perform simple or routine tasks in support of work on various devices, while following detailed instructions which encompass all procedures.
  • Observe technical guidance, as required, between supervisor and higher-level technicians.
  • Learn to Localize and replace defective parts in electronic circuits.
  • Learn use of block, wiring and schematic diagrams to trace basic circuits.
  • Learn required documentation of maintenance activities.
  • Learn how the repair status of inoperative equipment and document maintenance activities are tracked utilizing the logistics management data base system to include, but not limited to, work order generation and updates, repair action documentation, issuing, returning, and adjusting inventory, ensuring inventory records are up to date and accurate, and other material control duties.
  • Learn networking and information systems support on training devices and networks.
  • Learn device requirements, system design standards, tools, and procedures.
  • Observe basic modifications to existing simulators.
  • Observe the preparation of discrepancy reports.

Minimum Education

Working towards at least a two-year degree in the required discipline.

Minimum Experience
  • Due to contractual requirements must be a United States Citizen
  • Must be able to pass a background check and eligible for a clearance.
  • FSI-D is a Drug Free Workplace where applicants and employees are required to successfully pass pre-employment and Random drug testing.
Physical Demands and Work Environment

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job:

  • Must be able to perform normal office duties (sitting for long periods at a desk or while attending meetings).
  • Must be able to climb stairs to enter and exit a simulator. While performing the duties of this job, the teammate is regularly required to sit, use their hands and fingers, to handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The teammate must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds. The teammate must have close and distance vision and the ability to adjust focus. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
  • Additional skills may be required to perform additional task(s) specific to work location, department, or line of business.
