Overview

The Test Facilities Operation, Maintenance and Engineering (TFOME) contract at the NASA Glenn Research Center, Neil A. Armstrong Test Facility in Sandusky, Ohio is searching for a Mechanical Designer.

Responsibilities

    Develop mechanical projects from conceptual phase through design cycle to complete detailed designs and 3D models for the Institutional Services.

  1. Develop detailed design models, drawings and specifications for mechanical equipment, electrical equipment, structural assemblies, foundations, building structures, underground and overhead utilities using computer-assisted drafting (CAD) equipment.

  2. Consult with engineers regarding model accuracy, design, and drafting standards.
  3. Assure that anticipated problems in manufacture, assembly, installation, and operation are resolved by the drawings produced.
  4. Coordinate and consult with other engineers and technicians to design, lay out, or detail components and systems and to resolve design or other problems.
  5. Exercise independent judgment in reviewing and interpreting design data based on knowledge of the functional and operational requirements.
  6. Review and analyze specifications, sketches, drawings, ideas, and related data to assess factors affecting component designs and the procedures and instructions to be followed.
  7. Produce design models and/or shop drawings that are clear, concise, free from drafting errors, and meet the job standards and specifications.
Qualifications
  1. Possesses at a minimum an associate's degree and at least 2 years of experience in the field or in a related area.
  2. Must be proficient in Creo (Pro-Engineer) 3D solids modeling software, Windchill Database Management, Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing Methods and Standards, and Microsoft Office Products.
  3. Must have the ability to use own judgment and decisions to allow continuity of workflow.
  4. Must be self-motivated and a team player with good interpersonal and communication skills.
  5. Must be able to organize time and assignments to properly prioritize efforts for maximum effectiveness.
