What we are looking for

Under direction of the Benefits Supervisor, the Human Resources Specialist works collaboratively as part of the HR team and is responsible for the administration of workers' compensation cases as well as administration of leave of absence cases across all business units of the company. Your expertise will be essential in addressing inquiries and resolving issues related to leaves and workers' comp, contributing to a workplace where every member feels valued, supported, and empowered to succeed You will assist with various other benefits administration duties, as needed. You will be based in our Long Beach Headquarters and hybrid option is available (2 days/week minimum in the office).

How you can make an impact

  • Main point of contact for employees inquiring about workers' compensation and leave of absence cases.
  • Advise HR Business Partners and management on all workers' compensation and leave of absence cases.
  • Manage all workers' compensation and leave of absence cases from beginning to end, including updating and maintaining all employee files related to the case.
  • Maintain knowledge of state, federal, and local workers' compensation and leave of absence legislation and industry trends.

Workers' Compensation

  • Collaborate with workers' compensation vendors, adjustors, and insurance brokers to ensure appropriate management and to evaluate, monitor, and resolve cases.
  • Work closely with the SCS health and safety team at the corporate and business unit level.
  • Document correspondence with employees, supervisors and insurance company representatives throughout the life of the case.
  • HR contact for third party nurse triage administrator and occupational clinics.
  • Process invoices for first aid injuries and other related invoices.
  • Assist with annual audit.
  • Assist with annual WC/GL/Liability insurance policy renewal.
  • Assist with annual OSHA posting requirements.

Leave of Absence

  • Send required paperwork to employees, track benefit payments and time off for all leave of absences including FMLA, CFRA, military, personal, and other state specific leaves.
  • Work with third party absence management partner to guide employee through leave of absence process, helping to ensure that employee meets all necessary eligibility criteria, and that LOA is approved or denied timely.
  • Communicate approvals, denials, leave extensions, re-certifications, return to work plans and other relevant information regarding the leave to employee and management as appropriate.
  • Manage reasonable accommodations under the ADA by providing employees guidance on their eligibility based on state and federal laws and facilitating the interactive process with both employee and supervisor in coordination with our third-party absence management partner.
  • Maintain accurate records in HRIS to track hours and leave history.
  • Work with payroll to ensure time off is applied properly.
  • Assist employees with Short Term Disability (STD) and Long Term Disability (LTD) cases.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in business or human resources is preferred.
  • A minimum of two years of experience handling workers' compensation cases and leave of absence cases in a multi-state environment (CA experience preferred) or relevant human resources experience required.
  • HR Certification a plus (PHR, SHRM-CP)

Pay range for this position is $60k to $72k depending on experience. This does not include bonuses or our Employee Stock Ownership Plan.
