The Department of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine of Ochsner Health in New Orleans, LA is looking for a full-time Transfusion Medicine Clinical Pathologist.

The Department of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine of Ochsner Health in New Orleans, LA is looking for a full-time Transfusion Medicine Clinical Pathologist. The Ochsner Health System Section of Transfusion Medicine provides comprehensive Transfusion Services, including a hospital-based donor center program (18,000 collections annually), complex transfusion service/reference laboratory at our 750+ bed tertiary academic medical center (and assists with oversight of our multiple community hospital blood banks), therapeutic apheresis (1000 procedures annually), cellular therapy processing laboratory and histocompatibility laboratory (in support for our bone marrow transplant and solid organ transplant programs). The Transfusion Medicine section includes one full-time and two part-time board-certified blood bank physicians.

Applicants must have an MD, MD/PhD, or DO degree, be eligible for Louisiana medical license, and have demonstrated excellence in clinical care and education. Board certification in an American Board of Medical Specialty is required. American Board of Pathology certification is preferred. Blood Banking/Transfusion Medicine certification and post-fellowship experience is preferred. Recent Transfusion Medicine fellows who are board-eligible may be considered. Experience in Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics with ABHI/ ACHI certification or eligibility is highly preferred, but not required. A successful candidate will have excellent interpersonal skills, enthusiasm for teaching, and a collaborative attitude.

The Transfusion Medicine Section is accredited by the Food and Drug Administration (Donor Program), AABB, College of American Pathologists (CAP), and the Foundation for Accreditation in Cellular Therapy (FACT). The HLA laboratory is accredited by the American Society for Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics (ASHI) and College of American Pathologists (CAP).

The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine is located at the Ochsner Medical Center in New Orleans. The Department is responsible for all laboratory functions in our community Hospitals in Louisiana (and 1 in Southern Mississippi) and Ambulatory Clinics.

Currently, the Ochsner Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine has 30 pathologists and 2 PhD's, with additional growth anticipated.
