Job Description
The Materials Management Supervisor is responsible for all material transactions in the GMP facility, including the ordering, receipt, release, storage, and distribution of inventory items as per Quality Management System guidelines, current Good Manufacturing Practices regulations (cGMP), current Good Tissue Practices regulations (cGTP), and standards from the Foundation for the Accreditation of Cellular Therapy (FACT). The position is responsible for all inventory held in materials management storage locations and ensures that equipment alarms are addressed quickly to mitigate impacts to supplies and products.The position reports to the Director of Manufacturing Operations.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Interacts with project management personnel, attends production planning meetings, and ensures that material requirements for production campaigns are secured.
  • Serves as the subject matter expert for the electronic inventory management system and ensures the system is used as designed to process material transactions.
  • Ensures that supplies ordered by the Human Application Laboratory are released and available for use as per cGTPs requirements.
  • Leads the Supplier Qualification Program and evaluates all new suppliers that provide goods and services to the GMP facility.
  • Leads the materials management department and provides instruction to the Materials Management Lead and junior staff.
  • Manages all controlled inventory within the GMP. Ensures that materials are available when needed, in the quantities requested, and within expiry.
  • Develops creative solutions for material storage. Works within spatial constraints to manage supply and inventory holdings to meet production needs.
  • Coordinates shipment of critical patient materials using custom couriers.
  • Supervises and mentors all materials management staff. Writes and administers performance evaluations. Approves time off requests and coordinates scheduling of staff activities. Provides daily direction to staff. Ensures staff communicate regularly using huddles and informal meetings.
  • Evaluates vendors. Ensures that new vendors are qualified following the established process. Assesses vendor performance on a periodic basis and addresses performance issues using the supplier corrective action process.
  • Communicates with purchasing department and ensure that orders are processed. Obtains estimated time of arrival (ETA) for critical materials and communicates updates at production planning meetings. Communicate with vendors and sales representatives on material order forecasts. Seek guidance from vendors about product replacements when notified about backorders.
  • Attends all production planning meetings and provides regular updates on material availability. Ensures that all stakeholders are informed about material shortages or materials that do not meet release criteria.
  • Ensures all deviations originating within the Materials Management department are properly documented and fully investigated. Implements corrective and preventive actions to ensure the root cause is properly addressed.
  • Develops customizable reports for managing materials in recurring production campaigns. Reports will show stock-on-hand, stock-on-order, minimum order, maximum order, and the estimated time of arrival for pending materials.
  • Responsible for the implementation, utilization, and continuous improvement of the electronic inventory management solution used to manage inventory holdings and transactions in the department. Serves as the subject matter expert for the system and trains junior staff on system utilization.
  • Coordinates with St. Jude central receiving and is the primary point of contact for any issues that may arise with campus deliveries.
  • Establishes procedures for materials management that comply with the cGMP, cGTPregulations, and FACT standards.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or directed in order to meet the goals and objectives of the department and the institution
  • Maintains regular and predictable attendance.

Minimum Education and/or Training:

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Master's degree preferred.
  • Knowledge of ERP or WMS, such as Workday, Oracle or SAP is an advantage.

Minimum Experience:

  • Seven (7) years of relevant experience working in a GMP materials management setting is required.
  • Supervisory experience is required
  • Prior industrial experience in materials management is required
  • Three (3) years of experience is required with a Master's degree

Compensation

In recognition of certain U.S. state and municipal pay transparency laws, St. Jude is including a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. This is an estimate offered in good faith and a specific salary offer takes into account factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets, experience and training, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the salary range and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current salary range is $70,720 - $126,880 per year for the role of GMP Materials Management Supervisor.
