Job Description

Inova Alexandria Hospital is currently seeking a dedicated and experienced Registered Nurse (RN) to join our Float Pool ED team on a full-time basis. The Float Pool RN will play a crucial role in providing high-quality patient care across various units within the hospital during the day shift. This position offers the opportunity to work in a dynamic healthcare environment while utilizing your clinical skills to their fullest potential.

Shift: Day

Emergency Departments to Float: Inova Alexandria Hospital ED, Franconia-Springfield Healthplex ED and Oakville ED

The Critical Care (CC) Registered Nurse - Float Pool provides knowledgeable and caring clinical practice and care coordination through an understanding of patients, families, nurses and healthcare delivery teams. Consistently provides safe and therapeutic care in a holistic and systematic way while incorporating differences into the provision of care. Ensures that all patient care activities and interactions are patient/family centered. Integrates knowledge, skills and experiences to meet the needs of patients and families throughout the continuum of care, to include patient and family education. Provides direction and guidance to others regarding practice while serving as a resource, preceptor and mentor and serves as an empowering body to influence patient empowerment as well as successful outcomes of financial and clinical quality through relationships and access based knowledge. Assignments in Float pool will be limited as deemed appropriate by hiring leader.

Job Responsibilities

  • Performs comprehensive patient health assessments by interpreting multiple, sometimes conflicting, data sets and synthesizing their interrelationships
  • Formulates individualized plans of care based on assessment findings and interpreting trends in patient populations to achieve best practice
  • Supports and empowers patient/families as they progress through the healthcare continuum from health promotion to end of life decisions
  • Advocates for patients' rights from the patient/family perspective while providing counsel and acting as a resource to resolve issues
  • Anticipates ethical, spiritual and cultural needs of patients and intervenes to maximize patient outcomes and coordinates healthcare and alternate services for patient/family transition planning
  • Documents all patient care activities, as per documentation standards, and assists healthcare team members with documentation
  • Evaluates the outcomes of documentation and contributes to related performance improvement initiatives
  • Assists staff with assessing patients' learning needs and outcomes measurement of patient education
  • Collaborates with multidisciplinary healthcare teams and leads other disciplines to meet desired outcomes
  • Communicates effectively and works cooperatively with others, has respect for and an understanding of other clinical disciplines and uses an integrated approach toward achieving desired patient outcomes
  • Keeps informed of unit initiatives and incorporates the outcomes of team or committee work into practice
  • Acts as a clinical resource and serves as a mentor to healthcare team members
  • Identifies own learning needs and develops professional goals, seeks opportunities to obtain education to enhance practice, collaborates in the development and implementation of educational plans for identified needs, and reviews self-development plan and professional goals
  • Demonstrates evidence of self-development by obtaining a minimum of six formal contact hours and maintains own Team Member Continuing Education Record
  • May perform additional duties as assigned



Requirements

Requirements:

  • 1 year RN critical care experience, and a minimum of 6 months clinical acute care experience required
  • BSN from an accredited school of nursing. If RN has an Associates Degree (ADN); must complete BSN within 24 months of start date.
  • BLS for Healthcare Provider Certification required (AHA) American Heart Association upon start and ACLS, PALS within 6 months
  • RN licensed, or eligible to practice in the Commonwealth of Virginia as a RN
  • Proficient in English, strong verbal and written communication skills.
