Overview

Staff Support Clinician is responsible for assessing, planning, coordinating, implementing, and evaluating staff support services and programming. A focus on collaborative relationships and staff effectiveness is key to effective implementation of the staff support program. Of particular importance is the need for the EAC to be available real-time (in-person or by telephone) to provide and coordinate emotional and psychological support for staff during particularly stressful events.

The primary population served will include the PICU staff and physicians, including departmental leadership and support personnel.

Responsibilities
    Assessment and analysis of staff emotional support needs in collaboration with department leadership. This will require development of recommendations for priority programming and for implementation processes.
  1. Interprets and provides standards for staff support programming which fosters team collaboration, with potential to improve quality programming, process and outcomes
  2. Acts as a consultant for department, division and hospital programs and initiatives as appropriate.
  3. Within the framework of Nationwide Children's Hospital policies and procedures, the Ohio Nurse Practice Act, Joint Commission and other professional practice standards, designs staff instructional systems and interactive processes to enhance staff support.
  4. Designs, coordinates, implements, and manages select projects, including educational programs and materials.
  5. Provides both formal and informal staff wellness interventions that may include the use of other complementary/alternative health modalities, such as aroma therapy, and demonstrates exceptional knowledge in best practices for staff intervention including group interventions to minimize trauma.
  6. Develops and utilizes appropriate evaluation systems to determine the effectiveness of intervention and provides analysis.
  7. Provides information and links to staff support resources e.g. Matrix and other professional community support.
  8. Acts as a role model, coach, mentor, support resource.
  9. Participates actively on committees, task forces and projects as assigned. Provides leadership in the department and division by assuming an active role for program development, expansion and outcome measurement as directed.
  10. Will link wellness and support activities when appropriate to departmental and divisional processes such as peer review, quality performance and improvement activities.
  11. Searches for, finds and applies current best practices in staff support and wellness programs.
  12. Completes other duties as assigned.

Specific Job Duties:

  1. Provides group and individual staff interventions as indicated including assessment, brief crisis intervention services, and as appropriate other complementary/alternative health modalities, to help improve the processing of and coping with potentially traumatic events.
  2. Is available on call for group crisis support (such as Critical Incident Stress Management Defusings) as part of the hospital's Critical Incident Response Team.
  3. Provides individual and group staff support by developing and implementing a variety of proactive resilience and wellness activities.
  4. Collaborates with assigned clinical lead and/or director for development of individual assistance related to clinical care situations.
  5. Develops and monitors staff wellness services, collaborates with department leadership in the development and planning of staff support initiatives.
  6. Reviews and revises department policies and procedures and processes related to staff support needs - works collaboratively with department leadership in this process.
  7. Participates in performance improvement processes, regulatory processes as needed and required by department and division leadership.
  8. Acts as a liaison to internal & external support resources e.g. "You Matter Program", Matrix.
Qualifications

KNOWLEDGE , SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

  • Master's degree in Psychology, Social Work, Counseling or Marriage or -Family Counseling, or Ph.D in related field.
  • In the state of Ohio: Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor or Licensed Independent Social Worker (LISW) or Licensed Social Worker (LSW)
  • A minimum of 2 years of post-Master's clinical experience in a variety of settings with emphasis on mental health/chemical dependency. Experience with workplace issues highly preferred.
  • 2 years of EAP experience highly preferred
  • Additional licenses and/or certifications in complementary/alternative medicine modalities is preferred.
  • Strong customer service and communication skills
  • Leadership ability as demonstrated by high levels of initiative, decision making and organizational skills.
  • Intermediate Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Internet skills
