Job Summary
Supervises staff involved in providing clinical patient care. Assists in ensuring the quality of patient care delivery in a specific patient care area and serves as a role model for professional nursing practice. Assists with the administration and management of personnel, fiscal, and material resources. May assume full responsibility for the unit in delegated areas and in the absence of the manager.

Department Description
C6 is comprised of a 24 bed Children's Hematology / Oncology and a 13 bed Children's BMT unit which provides comprehensive inpatient care to children and a small subset of adults and their families. Protocol intensity ranges from high to minimal requiring 2:1 to 1:4 nurses to patient ratios. High volume treatments and nursing procedures include: medication administration (phase 1 and 2); intravenous therapy via peripheral lines and a variety of central access devices; cardiorespiratory, and SPO2 monitoring; serial ECG's; care of patients undergoing a variety of diagnostic studies, including but not limited to, renal and liver biopsy, bronchoscopy, and radiological procedures; pharmacokinetics and pharmacogenetics; chemotherapy administration; and care of the chronically and terminally ill patient, including pain management, nutritional support, discharge planning, and coordination of appropriate community resources. The C6 management team also covers the Children's Acute Care Resource Team that provides both nursing and patient care assistant coverage to all of the acute care.
