DESCRIPTION

Under general supervision, performs a variety of work duties which requires specific knowledge and training in patient care duties within business and professions code of the State of California and/or the regulations The Joint Commission (TJC). These duties also include but are not limited to: environmental care functions, equipment/supply management and cleaning/disinfecting the environment, management of liquid molecular next-generation sequencing (NGS) testing orders. Incumbents may also provide front office services on a routine or back-up basis.

The Medical Assistant Specialist serves as a liquid molecular next-generation sequencing resource to cross departmental multi-disciplinary teams across cancer services. Responsibilities include providing next-generation sequencing testing direction to the multi-disciplinary team, coordination of liquid next-generation sequencing test collections, oversight of shipping process, primary liaison between third party agencies and the multidisciplinary team. The Medical Assistant Specialist Initiates and participates in improvement efforts which directly impact molecular testing needs across cancer services. Other Specialist duties as assigned

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Three (3) years of Medical Assistant experience.

  • Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) OR Certificate of completion of a Medical Assistant training program.

  • BART or BLS at time of hire with commitment to get BART w/in 6 months of hire date.

  • Knowledge of medical terminology, on-line scheduling, universal precautions, and proper use of body mechanics.

  • Requires initiative, the ability to prioritize demands and the ability to work in a team environment.

  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Three (3) years of liquid molecular next-generation sequencing vendor portal management.

  • Knowledge of lab safety fundamentals.

  • Knowledge of shipping and handling of biological substances.

  • Knowledge of liquid molecular next-generation sequencing vendor portal management.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS
  • Must be able to work various hours and locations based on business needs.
  • Employment is subject to a criminal background check and pre-employment physical.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $57,378 - $71,430 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $27.48 - $34.21

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
