About the Job

St. Anthony Falls Laboratory (SAFL) is currently seeking a Senior Stormwater Research Fellow in a non-academic part-time (14 hours per week) position at the University of Minnesota. This position is specifically for a stormwater research group and the projects relate to capture and release of pollutants from stormwater ponds, biofiltration media, iron enhanced sand filters, climate change analysis and adaptation, assessing and developing methods for measuring infiltration, outlining maintenance protocols for stormwater treatment devices, and development of guidance documents and reports for all previously listed activities and future stormwater research areas. Job duties include meeting and collaborating with stormwater research group members and partners (5%); reviewing and revising experiment protocols, methods, standards, and deliverables (30%); drafting research project deliverables (50%); presenting research results at meetings, conferences, workshops, and seminars (5%); and other duties necessary to complete the research (10%). This individual will work a maximum of 14 hours a week. Start date is flexible - ASAP works, too!

Qualifications

Required qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in civil or environmental engineering, or similar field,
  • Extensive experience (20+ years) in water resources management, planning, and modeling

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience in stormwater management, design, and maintenance will be given special consideration,
  • Experience in consulting engineering will be given special consideration,
  • Professional Engineering licensure will be given special consideration.
  • Hybrid work environment (in person and remote)
About the Department

This position is located in the St. Anthony Falls Laboratory (SAFL), an interdisciplinary fluid mechanics research center of the College of Science and Engineering. SAFL research is focused on fundamental fluid dynamics and the intersection of fluid mechanics with major societal challenges in energy, environment and health. The lab integrates cutting-edge experimental work at laboratory and field scales with advanced computational tools and theory to obtain innovative, science-based solutions to fluid-flow challenges. Research is led at SAFL by 18 full-time faculty members with appointments in Departments of Civil, Environmental, and Geo- Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Earth & Environmental Sciences, Aerospace Engineering and Mechanics, and Chemical Engineering and Materials Science in the College of Science and Engineering; Department of Ecology, Evolution and Behavior in the College of Biological Sciences; and the Department of Geography in the College of Liberal Arts. SAFL personnel includes research and support staff members, postdoctoral associates, graduate students, as well as visiting researchers and undergraduate interns.
