General Summary

  • Under direct and indirect supervision, delivers speech-language pathology services through evaluation of patients with disorders of speech, language, cognition, communication, voice, and swallowing; goal determination; and development of treatment plans according to the principles and practices of speech/language pathology in order to fulfill the requirements for a Clinical Fellowship Year of American Speech-language Hearing Association.

Qualifications
  • A Master's degree in Speech-language Pathology is required.
  • Current license to practice Speech-language Pathology in the State of Maryland with a stipulation of supervision.
  • Knowledge of anatomy and physiology related to normal development, medical diagnoses, and disorders of speech, language, cognition, and swallowing. Examples of pertinent medical diagnoses include cerebral vascular accident, traumatic brain injury, and spinal cord injury.
  • Knowledge of assessment and therapeutic materials and procedures related to speech, language, cognition, and swallowing, including such specialized procedures as modified barium swallows.
  • Ability to read, write and speak English in order to communicate with patients and other health care personnel effectively.

Working Conditions

  • Weekend, shift work, holiday, on-call, and overtime may be required.
  • Work may require lifting or moving patients to move/transfer in and out of beds, wheelchairs and/or stretchers.
  • Work may require regular standing and walking, in the process of performing the responsibilities of the position.
  • There is potential for regular exposure to patients possessing infectious disease, requiring observance of "Standard Precautions" by wearing protective clothing and following safe work practices.
