Job Description

PCI is seeking an Associate Design Engineer for its operations based in Durham, NC. This individual will be responsible for the following duties:

    Attend kick off meeting with design and or operations staff at beginning of project to ensure Level of Development, scope, project details and contract requirements are understood before modeling begins.
  • Create 3D models utilizing Revit.
  • Actively participate in BIM coordination and design meetings.
  • Develop and model scopes as requested, including, but not limited to, Interior and Exterior Walls, including framing, Ceiling and Soffit Framing, Acoustical Ceilings, Specialty Panels, Raised Access Floor, Clean Room Walls, Clean Room Ceilings, Unistrut, No Fly Zones and other specialty scopes to required Level of Development using Revit, and other Revit add-on programs.
  • Coordinate with point cloud files.
  • Ensure models produced are spatially coordinated.
  • In collaboration with Design and Operations teams, communicate with Engineers, Architects, General Contractors and/or clients to deliver and convert model into install drawings, which will be used by the field for execution of the work.
  • Produce models and drawings that are consistent with instructions, guidelines, in-house standards and Project BIM standards.
  • Perform BIM compliance checks of deliverables.
  • Coordinate staff training to enhance staff members' knowledge and expertise of the standard and specialized software used as well as processes, innovation and new technologies.
  • Actively monitor and streamline Revit models from projects and coordinate change management process for project to ensure all internal and external stakeholders are aware of changes and impacts to the project.
  • Hold team members, both internal and external, accountable to deliverables, quality of work and the execution of a constructible model.
  • Actively engage with design teams to troubleshoot and ensure best BIM practices are being followed
  • Provide Engineering & Design support tasks including but not limited to: processing layout drawings, incorporating comments, producing details, and layout files that are in alignment with project documents and engineering.
  • Execute special projects as assigned.
  • Establish, develop, and implement design technology workflows within and beyond Revit, Revit framing plug-ins and Prefabrication CNC Software.
  • Develop staff capabilities in Revit, Revit framing plug-ins, Prefabrication CNC Software and other relevant software.
  • Model Interior and Exterior Wall, Ceiling and Soffit Framing, Acoustical Ceilings, Specialty Panels, Raised Access Floor, Clean Room Walls, Clean Room Ceilings, Unistrut, No Fly Zones and other specialty scopes to required Level of Development using Revit, Revit framing plug-ins and other Revit add-on programs.
  • Coordinate with BIM/VDC service providers and clients.
  • Assist in estimating BIM project costs at bid time.
  • Manage schedule and cost on BIM projects to ensure they stay on schedule and on budget.
  • Adhere to change management processes to ensure team is incorporating model, layout drawing changes as efficiently and responsibly as possible to support the design, field and prefab teams.
  • Drive resolutions for PCI's scope on the project, while staying within contractual obligations.
  • Push for resolution and document unresolved clashes and design that will impact the successful execution of the project.
  • Compile contract BIM close out documentation.
Requirements

Basic Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in related discipline (Construction Management, Construction Science, Architecture or Engineering fields, etc.) is preferred.
  • 2-year technical degree or 2 years of relevant experience in lieu of degree.
  • 4+ years of relevant proven BIM/VDC modeling and coordination experience.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Proficient in AutoCAD, Revit, Revit framing plug-ins, Navisworks, Microsoft Office suite, office software packages and high adaptability to learning new software and technology.
  • Ability to understand design and document coordination.
  • Knowledge of construction industry, means and methods.
  • Enforce company modeling standards and procedures.
  • Able to work well in a group setting, as well as an individual with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to work both individually and with a team, take direction and go beyond your job description when needed.
  • Assist project team in Model and VDC project setup. Set-up and maintain project templates, workspaces, libraries, sheet-sets, line-weights, hyperlinking and plots. Create and modify Revit families,
  • Ability to take responsibility for the outcome and results of assigned projects.
  • Model Server Management & Cloud data coordination.
  • Proficient skills in Microsoft Excel & Microsoft Word.
  • Proficient written and verbal communication skills.
  • Motivated self-starter with strong work ethic and a willingness to take initiative.
  • Positive attitude and ability to work in team environment.
  • Work well under pressure and deadline.
  • Ability to communicate the benefits of BIM/VDC, both for internal and external purposes.
  • Passion about BIM/VDC and how it can be used to improve the productivity of those who work in design and construction.
  • Portfolio demonstrating work in Revit and Revit Family Editor.
  • Must be organized, structured, and detail-oriented.

Preferred Requirements:

  • Applicable field experience a plus.
  • Proficiency in Sketch Up, Dynamo, Lumion & iConstruct, Navisworks, BIMTrack, BIM360 a plus.
