GIS Sensing Specialist III

This position requires the ability to obtain a USAccess.

The GIS Sensing Specialist III will play a crucial role in assessing the impact of major storms on the wetlands of the lower Mississippi River delta. Utilizing remote sensing and GIS analysis, you'll examine satellite imagery to track temporal changes in wetland type and coverage. Your work will involve collaborating with science staff, analyzing satellite imagery, performing vegetation classification, and contributing to the development of reports detailing analysis and results. Additionally, you'll serve as a backup metadata reviewer for published datasets.

Compensation & Benefits:

Salary is $62,000/yr

Pay commensurate with experience.

GIS Sensing Specialist III Responsibilities Include:

  • Conduct remote sensing and GIS analysis for wetland ecosystem monitoring and assessment.
  • Collaborate with science staff to acquire and analyze satellite imagery.
  • Perform vegetation classification and change analysis.
  • Assist in the development of reports detailing analysis and results.
  • Serve as a backup metadata reviewer for published datasets.
  • Communicate progress verbally and in writing.
  • May be required to drive government vehicles.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned

GIS Sensing Specialist III Experience, Education, Skills, Abilities requested:

At least one year of college education in computer science, information science, ecology, biology, geology, geography, or geographic information systems.

  • Preferred knowledge of various disciplines such as biology, geology, oceanography, and geography.
  • Proficiency in remote sensing theory, including spectral reflectance characteristics, spectral indices, land use land cover classification, pixel-based classifications, object-based classifications, and accuracy assessment of classifications.
  • Familiarity with common geospatial analysis techniques.
  • Understanding of geospatial datums and coordinate systems.
  • Experience with managing data and data quality assurance.
  • Ability to learn quickly, work in a team environment, and focus for long periods on one task.
  • Excellent communication skills to convey scientific and technical information effectively.
  • Attention to detail is crucial.
  • Must pass pre-employment qualifications of Cherokee Federal.
