We are currently seeking anAccounting Manager in Operational Accounting as part of our Enterprise Accounting department. Enterprise Accounting is integrated with the Enterprise Finance division at Zions Bancorporation. The Accounting Operations team falls within Enterprise Accounting. We process accounts payable for the Enterprise in a paperless environment, processing an average of 6,500 invoices per month. The team also provides accounting for and certification tracking of almost 70,000 assets. We provide the accounting of the fixed assets of the bank for the asset's lifecycle, from purchase to retirement, ensuring fixed assets are assigned the correct physical location, life, and asset category. Our focus is on standardizing and automating processes to free up time for critical thinking activities. Construction in progress for building construction and software development occupy 50% of the fixed assets team's workload.

As an Accounting Manager, you will play a key role in the operations of accounts payable and fixed assets, in which your contributions through innovation and creative thinking will have influence and impact for the entire department.

Ideal candidates will have the skills and experience necessary to:

  • Be responsible for coordinating and managing the payables and fixed assets accounting functions, concerning primarily the accuracy and maintenance of controls, mitigating risk in the processes for the resultant financial statements.
  • Identify opportunities to improve accounts payable and fixed asset processes and formulate proposals, procedures and/or processes and partners with operations and accounting to implement.
  • Identify areas of potential risk and provide business unit guidance on remediation and implementation of best practice procedures.
  • Participate in long-term strategic planning initiatives and objectives related to process standardization and automation efforts.
  • Participate and act in consultative role in the most complex general accounting projects.
  • Ensures applicable general ledger accounts are reconciled monthly.
  • Review business unit reconciliations to ensure they are prepared properly and follow-up on any unusual items.
  • Perform and assist with internal and external audits.
  • Assists and direct business unit with accounting policies, process controls and procedures.
  • Interacts with upper management in the design and development of department and/or company policies and procedures.
  • Serves as a spokesperson in professional field of expertise.
  • Directs departmental projects and accomplishes results through lower-level supervisor and cross-functional team members.
  • Utilizes extensive people skills in motivating team members.
  • Responsible for the direct supervision of the general operational accounting staff.
  • May oversee sales/use tax calculations, payments and returns.
  • May handle budget preparation and analysis.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Requires a bachelor's degree in accounting, business administration or related field.
  • 8+ yrs. experience in accounting and/or finance (CPA preferred but not required).
  • Supervisory or managerial experience.
  • A combination of education and experience may meet job requirements.
  • Requires an in-depth knowledge of general bank accounting including accounts payable, fixed assets, reconciliations, general ledgers, etc.
  • Ability to function in a consultative role and manage a team or project.
  • Excellent analysis, problem resolution and organizational skills
  • Applies highly advanced concepts in decision-making and problem-solving activities.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must be detail oriented, able to multi-task and prioritize time to complete projects.
  • Must be flexible and able to handle change in a fast-paced environment.
  • Keen sense of urgency and efficiency.
  • Contributes to the development of new principles and concepts.
  • Ability to develop and manage people.
  • Requires strong people skills with the ability to work with both management and staff employees exercising good judgement in choosing appropriate communication channels.

  • This position can be located at the Zions Technology Center in Midvale, UT or at the Amegy Tower in Houston, TX.
