Job Description

About the Role: We are looking for an Environmental Specialist to join our team. In this role, you will work to enable the Enterprise and Gore Performance Solutions (GPS) to increase confidence in compliance with Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) obligations. You will also develop and implement operational processes that enable the Enterprise to identify, assess, manage, and control EH&S operational hazards/risks and relevant costs.

This position will be located at our facilityin Elkton, Maryland, with the possibility of a hybrid remote work arrangement, depending upon the responsibilities of the role and business needs.

Responsibilities:

  • Shared ownership of driving and implementing environmental (air, water, waste, Emergency Planning and Community Right-to-Know Act) compliance activities, initiatives, and performance
  • Partner with divisional, corporate, and global EH&S teams to drive consistency in developing, implementing, and maintaining plant and divisional environmental systems, practices, and procedures
  • Manage air quality compliance (prepare and submit permit applications, modifications, reports, and monitoring)
  • Support industrial waste compliance (prepare and submit reports, profiling, shipment tracking, etc.)
  • Act as a point of contact with various regulatory agencies, consultants, contractors, attorneys, etc.
  • Partner with plant's EH&S team to continually improve and maintain emergency response procedures
  • Provide training and education, as necessary, to achieve desired environmental performance and compliance
  • Collect, analyze, and report EH&S metrics
  • Partner with the Enterprise EH&S team and other teams as appropriate to drive alignment and integration
  • Identify and understand appropriate regulations and participate in compliance-gap analysis

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Studies, Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, Environmental Health and Safety or a related field (e.g. Engineering, Chemistry), plus a minimum of 8 years environmental regulatory experience (i.e. Permit Application Development, Emission Quantification, Compliance Management Tools, Regulatory Applicability Analysis & Permit Strategy Development)
  • Experience with air/water permitting, hazardous waste management in a manufacturing, chemical processing, or laboratory environment
  • Experience developing material balances including quantifying emissions to air, water, waste and product content
  • Demonstrated success in identifying, assessing, and controlling environmental risk and implement practical and effective risk-reduction solutions
  • Proven problem-solving skills including incident investigation and root cause analysis
  • Ability to experience working with project and change management practices and tools, including organizational priority-setting skills, attention to detail, follow-through, effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to build consensus and influence a diverse group of Associates, especially regarding design and operation
  • Ability to work independently, contribute within a team, and actively engage and partner with manufacturing and technical Associates
  • Ability to drive completion of multiple projects and priorities with competing resources needs
  • Ability to travel up to 5% and work off-shift hours, if needed

Desired Qualifications:

  • Environmental Certifications (EIT, PE, CHMM)
  • Experience with hazardous waste management and working knowledge of MDE (Maryland Department of the Environment) regulations
  • Experience operating within EH&S management systems (e.g. ISO 14001 & ISO 45001), related consensus standards, and industry best practices
