Holton-Arms School is seeking an Associate Director of Communications who, in collaboration with the Head of Strategic Communications & Marketing, develops and designs the school's communications and marketing strategies to create awareness and enhance the school's reputation among all audiences, internally and externally. The Associate Director of Communications will play a pivotal role in advancing the school's mission and promoting its brand through effective communication strategies. The Associate Director will be responsible for the school's narrative with a focus on magazine and publication oversight, digital content creation, and storytelling.
Responsibilities:
  • Oversee the production of the school's magazine, ensuring high-quality content that reflects the school's values and achievements.
  • Develop and execute digital content strategies across multiple platforms, including the school's website, social media channels, and email newsletters.
  • Create compelling stories and narratives that highlight the experiences and accomplishments of students, faculty, alumni, and the broader school community.
  • Collaborate closely with other departments, including Admissions, Development, and Academic Affairs, to ensure alignment and consistency in messaging.
  • Manage relationships with external vendors, such as designers, photographers, and printers, to support communication initiatives.
  • Monitor and analyze metrics to evaluate the effectiveness of communication efforts and make data-driven recommendations for improvement.
  • In conjunction with key school stakeholders develops, writes, edits, and produces print materials needed to support the school's mission, programs, and endeavors.
  • Responsible for the production of print and electronic newsletters, from inception to distribution.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism, Marketing, or related field.
  • 5-10 years of experience in communications, preferably in an educational or nonprofit setting.
  • Strong writing and editing skills, with the ability to craft engaging stories and content for diverse audiences.
  • Proficiency in digital communication tools and platforms, including content management systems, social media management tools, and email marketing software.
  • Excellent project management skills, with the ability to multitask and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Creative mindset with a passion for storytelling and connecting with audiences.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, and a demonstrated understanding of how communication can advance these values.
  • Ability to establish priorities, and meet tight deadlines, with superior organizational skills and close attention to details
  • Exceptional people management and communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Experience and familiarity with media outlets and journalists
  • Can work independently, coordinate projects, and make sound judgment
  • Experience in an educational setting preferred.
