Description

Washington College invites applications for a broadly trained cultural anthropologist for a Visiting Assistant Professor position in Anthropology. This is a 1 year appointment for the 2024-2025 academic year. The expected teaching load is three courses per semester, with optional teaching opportunities in the summer. At this time, all classes are planned for in-person learning.

The area of specialization within cultural anthropology is open. Teaching responsibilities will include 1-2 sections of Introduction to Anthropology each semester, as well as a combination of courses on candidate's preferred topics, a First Year Seminar, and other courses that support our department's curricular needs. Responsibilities may also include supervising a small number of senior capstone projects. We seek colleagues who are invested in undergraduate education and who teach in creative, experiential, and interdisciplinary ways.

The Department of Anthropology and Archaeology strives to create an inclusive educational community; promotes an environment that honors diverse human experiences; and approaches our educational mission in the spirit of social justice and community engagement. We support Washington College's ongoing efforts toward inclusive excellence and we seek faculty members who bring these values to their teaching and mentoring work.

A Ph.D. in Anthropology is preferred, although applicants who are ABD will be considered.

Applicants should submit the following materials: CV, cover letter, contact information for 2-3 references, and a statement of your teaching philosophy that includes a description of your demonstrated commitments and contributions to promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion through your teaching, mentoring, and/or outreach. Review of materials will begin on March 4 and will continue until the position is filled. Email questions to Dr. Emily Steinmetz at esteinmetz2@washcoll.edu.

Employment is contingent upon completion of a successful background check and establishment of identity and verification of employment eligibility as required by the Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986.

It is the policy of Washington College to provide reasonable accommodations. If you require any accommodations to participate in any part of the hiring process, please contact hr@washcoll.edu.
