HJF is seeking a highly motivated Evidence Synthesis Librarian to support the Clinical Affairs section of the Extremity Trauma and Amputation Center of Excellence (EACE) within the Defense Health Agency. The incumbent will develop and coordinate the creation of new knowledge in support of the EACE Clinical Affairs, Research and Surveillance, and other EACE programs. This position will contribute to outreach, information literacy, translation of knowledge into clinical practice, research support and assessment, and work collaboratively with counterparts in the EACE to provide organization wide support for systematic and scoping reviews.


The EACE leads the advancement of extremity trauma related discovery and clinical practice to optimize outcomes of service members, veterans, and beneficiaries while meeting the needs of the Combatant Commands and the Military Health System. The EACE is committed to ensuring a better future for those with extremity trauma. Established by the 2009 National Defense Authorization Act, the EACE is established jointly between the Department of Defense and the Department of Veterans Affairs. Originally established to operate with the U.S. Army as its lead component, in October 2022 the EACE aligned to the Defense Health Agency in the Research & Engineering Directorate with the other Congressionally established Centers of Excellence.

The Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine (HJF) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing military medicine. We serve military, medical, academic and government clients by administering, managing, and supporting preeminent scientific programs that benefit members of the armed forces and civilians alike. Since its founding in 1983, HJF has served as a vital link between the military medical community and its federal and private partners. HJF's support and administrative capabilities allow military medical researchers and clinicians to maintain their scientific focus and accomplish their research goals.

Responsibilities

    Develops and coordinates an evidence synthesis program to support systematic, scoping, and related literature reviews across disciplines associated with polytrauma and limb loss.
  • Develop policies and procedures for evidence synthesis in support of EACE strategic goals.
  • Maintains comprehensive knowledge of principles and practices of evidence synthesis, expert searching and systematic reviews.
  • Serves as an active participant on systematic, scoping, rapid and umbrella review teams.
  • Executes complex systematic search strategies.
  • Evaluates scientific literature and determines quality and validity of existing clinical recommendations, clinical practice guidelines (CPGs), clinical protocols, and other formally derived guidance to support evidence-based best practice.
  • Assists researchers and clinicians to navigate the evidence synthesis process from protocol to publication.
  • Participates in creating and teaching instructional sessions and workshops to cultivate clinicians' and researchers' research methodology skills. Creates guides, training modules, and learning objectives as appropriate.
  • May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor. This may include attendance of and participation in required training for role.
Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • Master's Degree in librarianship or related field required.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years experience required; minimum of two years' experience in libraries, archives, museums or like institutions.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Experience in research methodology, evidence reviews and evidence synthesis.
  • Experience applying evidence synthesis and/or systematic review methodologies within an academic or clinical discipline.
  • Knowledge of documentation and reporting standards for systematic reviews (e.g., PRISMA) and review management software (e.g., Covidence, Rayyan).
  • Knowledge of key issues, trends and skills associated with data literacy, open access, research data management, research impact metrics, and scholarly communication.
  • Strong organizational, project, and time management skills.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Experience in developing, conducting, and updating systematic search strategies as demonstrated by a publication record or manuscript acknowledgement is a plus.

Physical Capabilities

  • Lifting: Requires lifting materials up to 10 lbs.
  • Ability to stand or sit at a computer for prolonged periods

Work Environment

  • This position will take place primarily in a office setting

Security Requirements: U.S. Citizenship Required; Ability to obtain and maintain a T1/Public Trust background check.
