If so, we're looking for someone like you to join our team at APL.

We are seeking an organized and detailed project manager with excellent people skills to manage and optimize APL's STEM Academy. The STEM Academy utilizes APL STEM professionals to teach middle and high school students the in-demand skills necessary to succeed in STEM majors and careers, in both virtual and in-person classes on APL's campus. This after-schooland evening program includes courses covering topics that range from soft skills, such as critical thinking, to technical skills, including topics like circuit design and software development. APL's STEM program office is a dedicated team of people with a shared mission to develop the nation's STEM talent through programs including MESA, high school internships, community outreach, and college programs. We strive to foster an environment of authenticity, inclusiveness, equity, and access.

As a STEM Specialist...

  • Your will be working with APL STEM professionals to develop, implement, and improve project-based courses for APL's STEM Academy
  • You will recruit and train new and existing APL STEM professionals to teach middle and high school students STEM courses
  • You'll work with APL volunteer instructors to develop curricula, lesson plans, and presentations for new and existing courses
  • You will also be responsible for creating an exemplary student experience through the management of program elements like registration and payment, maintaining transcripts, monitoring outcomes and providing recognition, supporting student presentations, and finding creative solutions for parents and students when challenges arise
  • You will create and maintain program documentation including handbooks, process documentation, course content, rosters, project plans, certificate lists, and other critical information

You will work collaboratively on a range of APL STEM projects, which have previously included camps, community outreach programs, and special events


Qualifications

You meet our minimum qualifications for the job if you...

  • Possess a BS or BA in education or STEM major, including computer, physical, or life science or other related fields
  • Have 3+ years of experience providing teachers with instructional support and curriculum development
  • Are skilled in project management related to the administration of educational programs for children
  • Are proficient in media technology used to support student learning including Learning Management Systems and Zoom
  • Are highly organized, detail oriented and able to deliver strong results within designated time frames
  • Are a strong writer, presenter and communicator in educational, professional and community-based settings
  • Are willing and able to work a shifted schedule (10:30 - 7) when STEM Academy courses are in progress (Sep-Dec, Feb-May, Jul-Aug) with some flexibility to those hours dependent on business needs. Some weekends throughout the year

You'll go above and beyond our minimum requirements if you...

  • Have experience creating authentic immersive experiences for children to increase engagement
  • Have experience implementing online and/or blended curricula
  • Are excited to learn about new and emerging STEM technologies and are able to translate them into courses for middle and high school students
  • Have experience getting courses certified or approved by the Maryland State Department of Education or other governing organizations
  • Are certified in project-based learning practices
  • Have experience working on grant-related programs
