*** A cover letter is required at point of application*** The Department of Psychiatry has an opening for a full-time Clinical Research Assistant I in the Neuroscience of Risk and Development (NeRD) Laboratory at Boston Children's Hospital. The NeRD lab uses a developmental framework to identify risk markers for, and biological mechanisms that underlie severe psychiatric disorders. One goal of this research program is to delineate sleep physiology changes that occur over adolescence and determine how these trends interact with sociocultural, environmental, and sex/pubertal factors. A foundational understanding of how normative sleep physiology changes through adolescence is critical for fully understanding how aberrant mental health trajectories manifest. In this position, the Clinical Research Assistant will be contributing to a NIH-funded R01 that the Principal Investigator (Maria Jalbrzikowski, Ph.D.) is leading. This study focuses on mapping normative developmental trajectories of sleep EEG measures in youth 9-26 years old and examines moderators of sleep-age associations (e.g., sex, pubertal status, socioeconomic status).

The Clinical Research Assistant I will be responsible for:

  • Expedite ongoing research projects under the supervision of NeRD lab director.
  • Support research by recruiting subjects for studies through personal interviews and written communications with patients/ families, obtaining informed consent from participants, and teaching participants to wear the sleep-EEG devices.
  • Coordinate and prepare the necessary documentation for Institutional Review Board (IRB) together with the Principal Investigator of the study and/ or other members of the research team.
  • Conduct research activities at both on-site and off-site locations, guiding participants throughout each phase of the study, and serve as a liaison to the families/participants enrolled in the research study.
  • Coordinate follow-up visits as necessary.
  • Facilitate regulatory compliance and participate in teleconference calls and weekly team meetings.
  • Maintain databases and conduct literature searches to support publication efforts.
  • Monitor and review data collection and data entry, as well as informed consent procedures.
  • Assist with general administrative tasks, including ordering and organizing project materials and activities such as virtual & in-person meetings.
  • Responsibilities are not limited to these discrete activities. Day-to-day operation in the collection, organization, management, and analysis of data may also be asked of the applicant.

To qualify, you must have:

  • A bachelor's degree in STEM or Psychology
  • Familiarity with computers and common software packages including Word and Excel
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to prioritize among multiple tasks
  • Well-developed communication skills to provide critical information to participants, work collaboratively on a team, and effectively deal with conflicting views or issues.
  • Flexible schedule, including some evenings and weekends, possibility of remote work depending on schedule and department requirements.
  • Experience using REDCap is a plus but not required.
  • Experience coding in programs such as R or MATLAB is a plus but not required.
