Job Summary:

This position is accountable to provide coordinating support for the MWHC Cancer Center Integrative Medicine (IM) Program by organizing, facilitating, and promoting activities and initiatives identified by the Regional Cancer Center (RCC) Administration, the Cancer Center Operating Board and Medical Director, and the Integrative Medicine Steering Committee. This position works collaboratively with other Regional Cancer Center staff, Provider Members of the Integrative Medicine Program, Medical Staff and the community to promote holistic and integrated cancer care at MWHC.

This position must demonstrate a commitment to assist with staff, patient and community education, promote and maintain quality service, research, and program outcomes. The position will demonstrate a broad general knowledge and interest in the mind, body and spirit connection as it relates to the quality of life for individuals with cancer. The Integrative Medicine Program Coordinator will support the mission, vision, and values of MWHC and the Integrative Medicine Program, and will be responsible for compliance with all federal laws, state laws, and regulations governing the privacy of patients' protected health information.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities:

  • Program Administration: The position has primary responsibility for development and implementation of program administration functions. Works collaboratively and under the direction of the Manager, Regional Cancer Center Administration to develop and implement successful operational strategies for the Integrative Medicine Program. These functions include but are not limited to:
  • Current Members and New Applications *
  • Maintain a current database of member Providers *
  • Responsible for coordination of correspondence and contacts with member Providers *
  • Maintains the Provider application packets, distributes packets as requested, provides follow-up on prospective members, *
  • Manages the application and approval process for new Provider members
  • Integrative Medicine Referral Process *
  • Supports referrals from patients and physicians to member Providers, working with the Cancer Navigators
  • Maintains records of referrals made and follow-ups, and coordinates communications between patients, IM providers, oncology physicians, and primary care physicians
  • Cancer Program Events
  • Develops, coordinates, and supports events at the Cancer Center and in the community which demonstrate the mission of the Integrative Medicine Program
  • Small group events, examples would be yoga or tai chi classes, nutritional cooking demonstrations, etc.
  • Group education sessions
  • Coordinates activities of individual Member Providers who wish to provide services in the Cancer Center, following applicable policies and guidelines
  • Program Development: The position has primary responsibility for development, implementation and administration of the Integrative Medicine Program. Works under the direction of the Regional Cancer Center Medical Director and Manager, and IM Steering Committee to implement successful program development strategies. These strategies will result in continuous growth of program referrals, expansion of types of services offered, improved access for patients in our region, and greater acceptance of the principles of IM within the community at large. These functions include but are not limited to
  • Develops and coordinates educational opportunities that support the objectives of the IM program and help to increase awareness among various groups such as healthcare providers, physicians, and social workers.
  • Serves as a liaison to complementary and integrative care providers in the community who are potential members of the IM program. Maintains knowledge of types of providers and activities in the community that are related to the Program.
  • Maintains knowledge of similar programs in other Cancer Centers, and advises RCC Administration and the IM Steering Committee of developments and trends that would be helpful for success of the MWHC program.
  • Quality Improvement: The position has primary responsibility for development, implementation and administration of the Quality Improvement program for Integrative Medicine. Works under the direction of the Regional Cancer Center Medical Director and Manager and the IM Steering Committee to implement successful Quality Improvement strategies to support the Program. These functions include but are not limited to
  • Gather and maintain data that may be useful for quality improvement studies and activities
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of coordination of care among caregivers, and develop strategies for improvement
  • Gather and maintain data related to patient safety
  • Support measurement and monitoring of outcomes data for specific services or groups of services that contribute to a better understanding of the benefits of the services provided
  • Provide support for research studies that may be developed for the purpose of understanding the benefits and risks of services provided

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in health related field required.
  • 3 years experience in program administration and development required.
  • Ability to be self directed with flexible schedule
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office and related software applications
  • Exemplary interpersonal communication skills required.
  • Oncology experience preferred.
