I. JOB OVERVIEW

Job Description Summary:
The George Washington University (GW) is actively seeking a dedicated and experienced Associate Director, Clinical Services to join the leadership team at GW's Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS). Reporting directly to the Director of CAPS, this role encompasses the oversight of comprehensive mental health services, spearheading clinical service and consultation initiatives, and championing multicultural competence within the CAPS team.

In this capacity, the Associate Director will not only partake in but also refine clinical service provisions. This includes offering counseling and psychotherapy, managing crisis interventions, and supporting student development programs. The role demands a proactive approach to assessing, evaluating, and diagnosing a broad spectrum of psychological challenges faced by our undergraduate and graduate student populations. A dedication to evidence-based practices is crucial, as the Associate Director will oversee the development and execution of counseling services and treatment adhering to our STEPPED Care model and short-term counseling framework, thus guaranteeing superior, personalized care.

Beyond direct clinical duties, the Associate Director is tasked with the responsibility of supervising and supporting both staff and clinical externs, enriching their professional trajectory. This leadership role extends to cultivating dynamic partnerships across campus and within student organizations, thereby elevating the student experience and fostering an environment conducive to wellness and academic success. Through strategic consultation and collaborative efforts, the Associate Director will play a vital role in uplifting the overall mental health and wellbeing of the GWU student body.

Responsibilities
  • Oversee CAPS Clinical Services, ensuring effective management and administration of staff and services through the Student Health Center's EHR (PnC).
  • Organize and integrate CAPS Clinical Service activities, managing the evaluation and assessment of these services and programs.
  • Represent the CAPS director and staff in various capacities, including staff and extern supervision, team meetings, liaising with campus partners, liaising with community partners, participating in committees, and conducting consultations.
  • Collaborate with the director to develop and implement best practices, priorities, and goals for CAPS that align with the university and GW DSA's development objectives and academic mission.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with campus colleagues to provide services that meet the assessed needs of the GWU community.
  • Offer consultation and training services to the campus community on social/emotional needs, crisis intervention, and mental health awareness.
  • Maintain a clinical caseload that represents the client facing hours of the CAPS Administrative Team.
  • Provide clinical supervision to staff clinicians and oversee the case manager.
  • Participate in division and university-wide efforts to support and improve student life, retention, and well-being.
  • Provides other administrative duties as requested or assigned.

Performs other work-related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position
Minimum Qualifications:
Qualified candidates will hold an advanced degree in a mental health discipline (psychology, social work, or counseling), plus five (5) years of professional experience, to include two (2) years of supervisory experience. Licensed in Washington, D.C. or eligibility for Washington, D.C. clinical license within six months of hire
Additional Required Licenses/Certifications/Posting Specific Minimum Qualifications:
Current licensure / certification or eligibility for appropriate licensure / certification in the District of Columbia within six months of hire
Preferred Qualifications:
  • 5+ years of relevant counseling experience should be in a college or university setting where crisis intervention, personal counseling, group counseling, assessment and referral, consultation, outreach and workshops are included is preferred.
  • Three or more years of administrative experience including staff management and supervision is preferred.
  • Experience with electronic records systems.
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and writing skills.
Typical Hiring Range $80,927.47 - $111,231.23
