Job Description
Job Objective:
The Wells Optimization Engineer (WOE), based in Prudhoe Bay, Alaska, is responsible for the daily optimization of production in Prudhoe Bay, by ensuring that the right wells are online given whatever constraints are in effect at the time. The WOE is a critical position in the operations team, acting as a liaison between teams in Anchorage, Operations, and Wells. By coordinating closely with all these groups, the WOE maximizes value to Prudhoe Bay owners and the State of Alaska by reducing key risks, delivering production safely and efficiently, and minimizing deferrals from the Reservoir and Wells.
The WOE also fills the roll of Eastern Offtake Center (EOC) Specialist/DOT Controller. This position is responsible for monitoring integrated field-wide performance and recommending operational adjustments to optimize production within facility and reservoir management constraints. The EOC Specialist also controls, and is responsible for maximizing, NGL blending to TAPS. The EOC serves as the DOT Control Room Management (CRM) compliant control room, as the DOT Pipeline Controller of Record, for all Prudhoe Bay assets, where applicable. As DOT controller, the EOC Specialist serves as the central contact for all Leak Detection (where required by DOT and the State of Alaska) on DOT regulated pipelines. This duty encompasses Leak Detection for all PBU, GPMA. They also serve as the single point of contact for the Trans-Alaska Pipeline Operations Control Center, communicating pipeline-related issues to all North Slope producers.
This position is part of the Production Optimization team, which includes Field Optimization Engineers, Wells Optimization Engineers, and EOC Controllers. Collectively, this team works to maximize value to the Prudhoe owners and the State of Alaska through efficient optimization of the facilities - balancing maximum utilization of facility/field capacity while influencing the planning/scheduling/execution of maintenance activities to minimize the impact to the business.

Essential Job Responsibilities:

  • Working with DSO, Leads, PCC, Foremen, and Board Operators to ensure the right wells are online given whatever constraints are in effect..
  • Prepares well sorts for fieldwide prorations/outages/planned impacting activities.
  • Troubleshooting production issues from sand face through first stage separation, well testing, and well allocation for full field. Supports Pad Operators, Field Leads, Operations Engineers, PCC, Foreman, and Facility Engineers with various issues.
  • Tracking Well Impacts for Implied Production Capacity determination.
  • Providing recent well tests for Coil/Drilling work for Capacity Report and weekly wellwork activity and IOR value on weekly report.
  • Managing velocities within allowable limits, including daily and weekly velocity checks, and submitting inspection requests as required. Maintains SLBU List and history to ensure pipeline integrity during POP events for solids/sand producing wells.
  • Gas Lift Well Optimization on individual wells to troubleshoot production issues and maintain fieldwide gas lift performance.
  • Understanding and evaluating production bottlenecks throughout the production system. Investigates options to alleviate those bottlenecks and provides input for facility teams for plant-internalbottlenecks.
  • Providing day-to-day production allocation guidance to town and field teams and troubleshooting any fieldwide allocation issues for HEC Production Accounting
  • Build, maintain, and improve existing field offtake management strategies and tools including Gas Rate Predictor, Temperature adjusted IPC, PI Vision.
  • Performing the role of EOC Specialist, Controller of record for all PBU DOT pipelines, completing all OQ Requirements and remaining compliant with all trainings and control room changes
  • Participate in emergency response drills and training. Carry out emergency response duties as required.
  • Operating the NGL blending skid, maintaining blending specifications.
  • Complying with PHMSA Control Room Management requirements.
  • Responsible to CRCR and MOC Documentation processes for control room changes and regular operational procedural updates.
  • Work with SCADA and DCS programmers as operations representative on system additionsand enhancements (SETCIM, IP21, DCS, SCADA, Intuition, Experion.)

  • Provide backfill as Field Optimization Engineer (FOE)

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 2 years Upstream oil industry experience, Prudhoe Bay experience highly preferred.
  • Drive to deliver results and actively seek out & address production enhancement opportunities.
  • Ability to work a 12 hour per day, 14/14-day rotational assignment on the North Slope of Alaska including limited Night Shift coverage.
  • Flexibility to work in Anchorage office on occasion to enable interaction with senior leadership, Operations Engineers, and other office-based staff.

Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Science in Chemical/Mechanical/Petroleum Engineering preferred.
  • BS in other engineering disciplines or equivalent combination of training and experience demonstrating sufficient knowledge, ability, and skill to handle the duties and responsibilities of the position will be considered.
