Responsibilities

Peraton is seeking a Deputy Manager, Engineering and Implementation to join our team of qualified and diverse individuals on our Department of State (DOS) Consular Affairs Enterprise Infrastructure Operations (CAEIO) Program. CAEIO supports the DOS Bureau of Consular Affairs (CA), providing IT Operations and Maintenance (O&M) to modernize the legacy networks, applications, and databases supporting CA services globally.

The Deputy Manager reports to the Director, Engineering and Implementation.

The Engineering Team leaders oversee and manage all engineering projects/pilots/proof-of-concept efforts and provide engineering services for physical and virtual hosting/operating environments for all CA systems, both domestically and abroad. Engineering and design services cover physical and virtual Windows and Linux Server platforms, as well IaaS/PaaS/SaaS offerings and SW-defined infrastructure within Consular Affairs. The Engineering and Implementation Manager leaders play a critical role in the strategic planning of the infrastructure and building a resilient architecture to support the CA mission.

Responsibilities

As a technical leader, the Deputy Manager:

    Overseas the development and maintenance of engineering and automation roadmaps that support strategic goals and objectives.
  • Provides technical leadership in lifecycle engineering activities (design, develop, test, implement, maintain) for new and existing capabilities/platforms in an enterprise environment with on-premises and cloud-integrated systems, applications, and infrastructure.
  • Ensures DOS policies and procedures are adhered to for security and configuration management.
  • Coordinates high visibility technical efforts between Engineering, Operations, and the Project Management Office.
  • Provides oversight to team tasks and backlogs using scaled agile framework tools (Jazz) and works with Program/Government leadership to prioritize efforts and meet deliverable dates.
  • Develops and leads briefings and adhoc data calls for program leadership, the government customer, and other stakeholders.

As a people leader, the Deputy Manager:

  • Fosters a collaborative environment for a team of over 55 members and with partners and customers.
  • Develops and mentors task leads; effectively delegates engineering activities; ensures team is prepared to provide on-call support for 24x7 worldwide operations.
  • Monitors team member performance and facilitates their ability to achieve professional goals and program objectives.
  • Collaborates with Program Leadership to determine current and future staffing levels and expertise based on priorities and strategic direction of new technologies.

A successful leader on the program:

  • Delivers measurable results working in an often fast-paced and professionally challenging environment.
  • Demonstrates flexibility by managing multiple tasks and reprioritizing tasks - often to meet tight timelines.
  • Leverages strong written and verbal communications skills to prepare and present technical concepts to audiences with different levels of technical knowledge.
  • Works closely with Government Leadership to identify opportunities to modernize current platforms, services, and systems.

Core Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM

Work Location: Hybrid: remote AND up to one day per week in the office in Sterling, VA or Washington, DC.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications

  • U.S. citizenship and an active SECRET government security clearance with the ability to obtain TOP SECRET clearance.
  • 2+ years' experience managing and leading an engineering and 24/7 operations staff.
  • 5+ years' experience in a technical or other leadership role on O&M programs.
  • Experience performing the technical implementation of complex systems, implementing process change, and collaborating across multiple teams.
  • Experience prioritizing, planning, supporting and delivering one or more projects in parallel.
  • Experience managing or supporting the transition of on-premises capabilities to cloud environments.
  • Experience modernizing technologies and changing processes to improve service delivery such as availability, resiliency, management, monitoring, support, patching, and scalability.
  • Experience with Agile management methodologies.

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience supporting Department of State or similar federal organizations.
  • Experience being responsible for technical, schedule, and cost performance on a major program.
  • Industry-relevant certifications to include PMI, ITIL, Security+ and others.

Education and Experience: 12 years of experience, may have supervisory or management experience.

Target Salary Range
$135,000 - $216,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors.
