Curriculum Development Manager

The Curriculum Development Manager plays a critical role in shaping the educational content offered by GSUSA as a consultant and key partner for the Product Team. This position oversees the curriculum development process for training programs and courses, including standard and customized products, manages a team of Curriculum & Instruction Specialists, and partners closely with the Product Area owners who serve as subject matter experts (SMEs) within the curriculum creation process.

Responsibilities:

1. Curriculum Design and Development:

  • Lead the design, development, and maintenance of both standard and custom curriculum for new training programs and courses.
  • Serve as a learning design consultant, partnering with Product leaders to design new training programs and courses.
  • Conduct curriculum summits for launching new programs in collaboration with Product owners, with a special focus on custom course development and support of various Product domains.
  • Ensure alignment with federal and industry standards.
  • Manage processes for the collaboration and training with subject matter experts (SMEs) and other stakeholders to develop innovative and effective training courses and programs suitable for both online and face-to-face delivery.
  • Champion a learner-centric approach, focusing on engagement, learning outcomes, and instructional effectiveness.
  • Work closely with the Learning Design team to integrate best practices, innovative learning strategies, and effective assessment methods into curriculum design.
  • Stay current with training industry trends, educational technologies, and best practices in workforce development and instructional design.

2. Leadership and Team Management:

  • Lead and oversee a team of curriculum & instruction specialists.
  • Provide mentorship, guidance, and professional development opportunities for team members to enhance their skills and expertise.
  • Foster a collaborative and inclusive work environment that encourages creativity and continuous improvement.
  • Responsible for personnel, hiring, performance, development, and evaluation within the Curriculum Team.
  • Possess and conveys a positive, collaborative, motivational, and inspirational attitude to the instructors and staff by including a strengths-based approach to leadership.

3. Curriculum Quality, Documentation, and Maintenance

    • Create and manage processes for regular review of curriculum content to ensure accuracy, relevance, and alignment with learning objectives and industry standards.
    • Create standard operating procedures for curriculum summits and custom training development.
    • Conduct quality checks on curriculum materials, ensuring consistency, formatting, and adherence to internal design standards.

    4. Project Management:

    • Evaluates trade-offs between project size and complexity, cost, urgency, risk, and stakeholder value.
    • Facilitates operational checkpoint activities throughout the lifecycle of curriculum projects.
    • Assesses high priority project risks as they are identified and works with the Sr. Director of Learning Design to identify mitigation strategies.
    • Ensures all projects adhere to project methodology compliance standards.
    • Continually updates relevant stakeholders of project status.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    Requirements:

    • Master's degree in Education, Instructional Design, Curriculum Development, or a related field.
    • 3+ years of proven success in curriculum design and development within the federal workforce training and development sector.
    • Experience developing customized course curriculum ranging from webinars to virtual instructor led courses to cohort programs.
    • Strong background in adult learning principles, instructional design models, and curriculum development methodologies.
    • 2+ years managing and leading a team of instructional designers or curriculum developers.
    • Excellent project management skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.
    • Ability to set and manage priorities judiciously.
    • Exceptional communication and collaboration skills to effectively work with cross-functional teams, SMEs, and stakeholders, with an emphasis on partnership with Product leaders.
    • Proficiency in educational technologies, learning management systems, and multimedia tools.
    • Strong leadership, organization, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
    • Strong ability to plan and manage change within and across the department and organization.
    • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to interact professionally with diverse groups, including executives, managers, academic leadership, and subject matter experts.
