Job Summary

UCSF, a leading healthcare institution, is currently seeking a highly skilled and motivated Data Warehouse Platform and AI Engineer to join our dynamic team. As a Data Warehouse Platform and AI Engineer, you will play a crucial role in supporting and maintaining our data warehouse platforms, including IBM Datastage, IBM EMPI, Tableau on-premise environment, Enterprise Github, ETL framework, and other future tools. In addition, you will contribute to the development and support of our AI platform. This position reports to the Manager of Data Warehouse Platforms and offers the opportunity to work in a collaborative and innovative environment.

Data Warehouse Platform and AI Engineer will have a range of responsibilities that include designing and maintaining the data warehouse platforms, ensuring the smooth operation of data warehouse processes, and managing data integration from various sources. For AI, you will be involved in the support, maintenance and development of UCSF's proprietary AI tool, Versa, which supports both chat and API connection. You will be assisting in the preparation and managing datasets for Versa AI and ensuring that the data infrastructure supports AI applications effectively. You would also be responsible for implementing security and privacy controls to protect sensitive data and comply with relevant UCSF policy and regulations.

Duties and Responsibilities include:
Support and maintenance for IBM DataStage, EMPI, Tableau on-premise, GitHub, ETL Framework and Versa AI platforms:

  1. Technical Support: You will be responsible for providing technical support to end-users who encounter issues or have questions related to the Data Warehouse platforms. This includes troubleshooting problems, identifying root causes, and implementing appropriate solutions in a timely manner. You will need to have a strong understanding of platforms functionality and be able to effectively communicate technical information to non-technical users.
  2. Issue Resolution: You will be responsible for diagnosing and resolving technical issues related to the Data Warehouse platforms. This involves analyzing log files, error messages, and system performance metrics to identify the root cause of problems. You will need to work closely with developers and other team members to implement fixes and ensure that issues are resolved promptly.
  3. Performance Optimization: As a Data Warehouse Platforms Engineer, you will play a key role in optimizing the performance of Data Warehouse platforms jobs and workflows. This includes analyzing system metrics, identifying areas of improvement, and implementing performance-enhancing solutions. You will need to have a good understanding of best practices and be able to fine-tune jobs for optimal performance.
  4. System Monitoring: You will be responsible for monitoring the Data Warehouse platforms to ensure its stability and availability. This involves monitoring system logs, job schedules, and system performance metrics to proactively identify any potential issues or bottlenecks. You will need to have a good understanding of monitoring tools and techniques to effectively monitor and manage the platform.
  5. Documentation and Training: You will be responsible for documenting technical procedures, troubleshooting guides, and best practices. This documentation will serve as a knowledge base for future reference and training purposes. You may also be required to provide training and support to end-users and developers on Data Warehouse platforms usage and best practices.
  6. Assist in the development and support of the Versa AI platform:
  • Collaborate with the UCSF AI Tiger team, stakeholders and customers for development and support of the Versa AI platform.
  • Integrate the Versa AI platform with the data warehouse environment and other data sources.
  • Provide technical expertise to support AI initiatives, including data preparation and model deployment.
  • Work closely with user community and UCSF AI Tiger Team to operationalize AI solutions.
  1. Juggle multiple responsibilities and prioritize tasks effectively:
  • Manage and prioritize tasks to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrate the ability to handle multiple projects and responsibilities simultaneously.
  • Communicate effectively with stakeholders regarding project status and timelines.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field. Equivalent work experience of 5+ years will be considered.
  • 5+ Years of relevant experience
  • Proficiency in scripting languages like .NET, Python, PowerShell, or similar.
  • Familiarity with enterprise version control systems, such as Enterprise Github.
  • Proven experience in supporting and maintaining data warehouse platforms, including IBM Datastage, IBM EMPI, and Tableau.
  • Strong understanding of ETL processes, data integration, and data modeling concepts.
  • Strong analytical and design skills, including the ability to abstract information requirements from real-world processes to understand information flows in computer systems.
  • Ability to represent relevant information in abstract models. Critical thinking skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to troubleshoot complex issues independently.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to juggle multiple responsibilities, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
