Development and Alumni Relations (DAR) supports Johns Hopkins' focus on research, teaching and patient care, and its role as a national and global leader in higher education. We create and foster enduring relationships that result in advocacy and philanthropic support for Johns Hopkins University & Medicine; strengthening the institution through partnerships with donors, alumni, volunteer leaders, faculty, students, staff, and patients.


Johns Hopkins University supports a flexible work model which includes four different work modalities. This role has a hybrid work arrangement with an onsite presence of 3 days per week. The manager will confirm the team's core onsite days where the majority/all team members will work in the office. Employees who travel on university business can count those days towards their onsite days.


As an integral member of the Talent Acquisition (TA) team for DAR, the Talent Acquisition Specialist plays a pivotal role in providing comprehensive support across administrative and full-cycle recruiting functions. Administratively, the role encompasses a diverse array of responsibilities, including but not limited to managing and reconciling team expenses, generating reports, coordinating travel and events for the TA team, maintaining strict confidentiality, and attending to various administrative duties as required. Recruitment responsibilities are central to the role, involving oversight of the job posting process, spearheading interview scheduling and stewarding of candidates, and overseeing the pre-employment procedures and requirements for new hires. Through these efforts, the Talent Acquisition Specialist ensures the seamless delivery of high-quality services to both internal stakeholders and prospective candidates, thereby contributing to the organization's overall success. SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES


Recruitment 80%

  • Post DAR requisitions to JHU Jobs, DAR Careers, LinkedIn and appropriate job boards while staying informed and researching new avenues for posting sites.
  • Attend intakes with lead recruiter to partner in recruitment planning specifically for non-exempt and casual roles
  • Review and filter applications (online applications, resumes, and cover letters) meeting minimum qualifications for non-exempt roles.
  • Attend job fairs and development conferences to attract future talent.
  • Creatively design marketing materials for candidates, job fairs, new hires, DAR Careers website, LinkedIn posts, and MailChimp email marketing, and partner with DAR Communications to ensure designs meet DAR and JHU regulations.
  • Maintain the DAR Careers website with up-to-date information on staff, initiatives, news, benefits, marketing, staff spotlights, current openings, and other information for prospective candidates and the community.
  • Coordinate and schedule interviews and other appointments for candidates in concert with hiring managers.
  • Partner with administrative staff to provide guidance and support for their teams' open requisitions.
  • Arrange travel and accommodations for visiting candidates.
  • Steward candidates while managing their itineraries for interviews.
  • Reconcile travel-related charges to corporate travel card.
  • Ensure a positive candidate experience throughout the recruiting process. Maintain effective communication and coordination with all parties involved to engage promising candidates and create the right impression of the organization.
  • Coordinate post-offer employment activities to include initiating references, background checks, creating personnel files, ensuring tax documents are complete, processing employee referral bonuses, sign-on bonuses, onboarding activities, and partnering with hiring managers in the successful transition between pre- and post-hire.
  • Collaborate with HR colleagues and hiring managers to ensure the successful on-boarding of new employees; work with supervisors, HR colleagues, and others to plan necessary actions.



Administration 20%

  • Partner with HR Business Partners in the initiation of the requisition process by verifying information with TA and compensation data.
  • Track the approval process for requisitions by partnering with finance and compensation partners.
  • Process employee transactions involving personal data, organization data, position data, compensation data, etc.; enter and maintain data in appropriate HR information systems.
  • Maintain up to date talent acquisition data through a new hire dashboard, requisition dashboard, cost of turnover spreadsheet, and employee movement report.
  • Provide operational and administrative support for the Talent Acquisition team. Process payments and reimbursements. Coordinate purchasing of supplies. Manage calendars, and provide other support as needed.
  • Recommend ideas that will improve recruitment effectiveness and efficiency and also contribute to the success of the organization. Make continuous process and service improvements where appropriate.


Minimum Qualifications
  • Associate's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Psychology or other related field.
  • Two years related experience.
  • Additional education may substitute for required experience and additional related experience may substitute for required education, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Experience working in talent acquisition.
  • Experience in development and alumni relations.
  • Ability to research, analyze and interpret data.
  • Proficiency working with databases, job boards, and applicant tracking systems.
  • Knowledge of relevant employment laws.
