The Air Force Research Laboratory is the primary scientific research and development center for the Department of the Air Force. AFRL plays an integral role in leading the discovery, development, and integration of affordable warfighting technologies for our air, space, and cyberspace force.

In order to meet current and projected workload requirements in support of the Air Force Research Laboratory Integration & Operations (AFRL/RS) Directorate, the Government must augment its organic (military and civil service) capabilities with knowledge and experience of Advisory & Assistance Services (A&AS) support. We are seeking an Information System Security Officer to assist with this important initiative.

The overall duties of the Information System Security Officer are but not limited to planning, implementing, managing, monitoring, and upgrading security measures for the protection of the government's data, systems, and networks. Additionally, support integration of Cyber capabilities with other DoD Services and other federal agencies/organizations required to implement national strategy, policy, and guidance.

An active Top Secret/SCI clearance with the ability to support the client site M-F core business hours is required.

Responsibilities:

  • Plan, implement, upgrade, and monitor security measures for protection of computer networks and information

  • Assess system vulnerabilities for security risks and purpose and implement risk mitigation strategies. May ensure appropriate security controls are in place that will safeguard digital files and vital electronic infrastructure

  • Respond to computer security breaches and viruses. Also administer, test, and implement computer databases, applying knowledge of database management systems

  • Coordinate changes to computer databases

  • Identify, investigate, and resolve database performance issues, database capacity, and database scalability. Plan, coordinate, and implement security measures to safeguard computer databases.

Required:

  • BS Degree, 5-7 years' experience (or equivalent work experience)

  • DoD 8570 Information Assurance Technical (IAT) Level II certification compliant (e.g., CompTIA Security+CE [continuing education], Cisco Certified Network Associate [CCNA]-Security, Global Information Assurance Certification [GIAC] Global Industrial Cyber Security Professional [GICSP], etc.).

  • Active Top Secret - SCI clearance

  • Seasoned expertise in implementing security controls, conducting audits, and managing security documentation to ensure compliance with government regulations.

  • Possess strong technical skills, including knowledge of cybersecurity tools and technologies, and be able to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

  • Ability to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams and continuous learning about emerging threats and best practices.
