Summary:

The Open Innovation Associate will be responsible for supporting the evaluation and execution of external opportunities (projects, assets, technologies) as well as strategic partnership management activities at early discovery or preclinical stages to enrich the KKUS Research pipeline in the 4 focus areas of Heme-Oncology, Hematology, Rare Diseases and Bone Mineral Diseases.

Essential Functions:

* Leads and/or supports scouting activities for external partnering of early-stage discovery or preclinical and novel technologies to enrich the KKUS Research pipeline.
* Leads and/or supports selected potential partnership opportunities /collaborators (incl. site visits and creates presentation meeting materials outlining the proposal.
* Leads and/or supports the management of external collaborations.
* Supports the management of collaborative projects with the La Jolla Institute for Immunology (LJI), KKUS-R's long-standing partner, and initiates new research collaboration projects.
* Assists with specific alliance agreement and governance activities, including procedures for decision making, project team meetings, data exchange, etc.
* Prepares and updates reports and presentation materials related to Open Innovation Department activities.
* Develops collaborative and productive relationships cross-functionally within the Kyowa Kirin organization.
* Assembles and effectively utilizes internal and external resources (as necessary) to ensure adequate support for Open Innovation Activities.
* Attends select conferences, partnering meetings, and other professional events.

Requirements:

Education
Bachelor's degree in Life Sciences or closely related discipline. MBA and PMP certification or equivalent preferred.

Experience
* Minimum three (3) years of biopharmaceutical industry experience. Relevant multi-disciplinary work experience in the Biotech/Pharmaceutical industry (e.g., Biomedical Research, Alliance Management, Program Management, Business Development) preferred.

* Established experience working with scientific evaluation teams identifying and evaluating promising partnering and licensing opportunities.

Technical Skills
* Science: solid research and scientific expertise / knowledge in at least one biological, biomedical or biotechnological area.

* Planning: Develops details of the approach to assignment with consideration of schedule, cost, reliability, simplicity, and effectiveness.

* Time Management: Manages multiple tasks in a timely manner and with consistent and reliable results.

* Communication: strong written, verbal, and listening communication skills: articulate and effective communicator and presenter, able to describe complex problems and solutions in understandable terms.

* Demonstrated experience in Research Project Management and Alliance Management.

* Advanced experience using Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel, and Power Point.

Annualized base salary ranges from $75,000 - $105,000 plus short term incentive bonus; actual salaries will vary and may be above or below this range commensurate with various factors including but not limited to experience, education, training, and merit.
