Job Summary

The Office of the Commissioner of the Revenue in Loudoun County Virginia is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Senior Business Tax Assessor. The successful candidate will operate at a fully proficient to advanced level to independently assess business licenses, business tangible personal property, and local excise taxes.

The successful candidate should demonstrate full competency in his/her own work area by ensuring that assigned business tax accounts are properly maintained and accurately assessed in compliance with State Code and County Ordinances. Serve taxpayers in a timely manner regarding delicate financial issues requiring considerable explanation, persuasion, and diplomacy. Conduct complex and varied research and analysis with limited supervision on projects of mid- and long-term duration of a broad scope in the areas of taxation, classification and discovery. Review large business personal property tax submissions to validate accuracy. Provide training and guidance to Business Tax Assessors. Work with management and other agencies as collections, bankruptcy, appeals, and litigation issues dictate and conduct field visits as needed.

Hiring salary is commensurate with experience.

Minimum Qualifications

Any combination of education and experience equivalent to a bachelor's degree in business, Management, Finance, or related field and at least three (3) years of experience with automated systems and customer service preferably in taxation or finance with one (1) year of supervision; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Proficient with Microsoft Excel and familiarity with Microsoft Access. Must be able to analyze and organize large amounts of data to effectively validate tax reporting. Solid written and verbal communication skills to interact with business owners, their accountants, and attorneys. Must be flexible and independently exercise good professional judgment. Knowledge of business structures, state and federal taxes, business procedures, and accounting practices are desirable.

Bi-lingual Spanish speaker preferred.

Job Contingencies and Special Requirements

Successful candidate will undergo a criminal background, credit, and DMV record check. Must maintain a valid driver's license in Virginia or regional state of residence.
