The Lab Technician responsible for participating in all aspects of basic and applied research. These duties include devices and prototypes characterization, working on new process methodologies, performing specific laboratory techniques, and supporting validations activities and equipment maintenance and calibrations. The Lab Technician works independently, performing experiments and other duties according to standard operating procedures. Tasks are directed by senior R&D staff, though some projects will be self-directed. All testing is documented through standard procedures or in a laboratory notebook detailing experimental work. As a member of the research group, the Lab Technician is trained in standard and experimental processing methods used. These methods may involve the use of biological and chemical materials, cell culture as well as manual and powered cutting tools. Laboratory techniques also often involve the use of hazardous materials. In these duties and others, attention to safety is required. The Lab Technician is also responsible for laboratory housekeeping. These duties include cleaning of laboratory spaces and classified (clean room) spaces along with duties related to the upkeep and cleaning of laboratory equipment, instruments and common laboratory areas.

What will you be doing?

Devices and prototypes manufacturing and characterization

  • Participate in in-vitro and in-vivo studies, including animal and human evaluations, molecular and biochemical testing, as part of research

  • Maintain a functional, safe, and effective laboratory and ensure that all equipment meets standards for laboratory research use

  • Assist in the improvement of protocols and processes in the laboratory

Performing experiments and other duties according to standard operating procedures

  • Ability to independently investigate and solve technical problems, as necessary Generate experimental plans and reports

  • Assist in the manufacture of test devices and prototypes

Results and data documentation in a lab notebook

  • Maintain proper documentation of all studies and testing performed following GDP guidelines

  • Submit new ideas for patent filing

Lab housekeeping - Maintaining a clean, functional, safe, and effective laboratory and ensure that all equipment meets standards for laboratory research use

  • Assist in ensuring that laboratory equipment is in a calibrated state throughout the year according to manufacturer's recommendations

  • Inventory management and ordering of reagents and supplies

  • Participate in inventory control and ensure items are ordered through the appropriate suppliers

What will you need to be successful?

  • Education:

    • Bachelor of Science Degree in a scientific field preferred

    • Associate or higher degree is required

  • Experience:

    • Minimum of 0-2 years of life sciences/biotechnology/pharmaceutical/ medical device industry experience, preferably in a Research position

  • Experience with tissue-based technologies or experience developing or refining biological implantable materials

  • Experience with tissue processing is a plus

  • Experience with one or more of the following is preferred: - Cell and Molecular Biology (e.g., Culturing and Passaging Cells, In Vitro assays, RNA/DNA Isolation and qPCR)

  • Physical Testing (e.g., Tension/Compression, Rheology, Particle Size Analysis) - Thermal Analysis (e.g., DSC, TGA, TMA)

  • Biochemical Assays (e.g., ELISA, SDS-PAGE, Western Blot, Picogreen, HPLC) Experience in implementing scientific procedures, methods, and tools for the manufacture and testing of medical products

  • Experience in contributing to technical and cross-functional teams in accomplishing projects with notable impact(s) on company objectives

  • Experience gowning and working in a clean room facility a plus

  • Physical Demands:

    • Must be able to stand and/or sit for extended periods of time

    • Must be able to push, pull, squat, bend, and reach above shoulders Repetitive use of hands

    • Ability to view computer screen for extended periods

    • Must be able to lift and carry objects up to 20lbs

    • May need to use common hand and power tools

  • Travel Requirements: <10%
