Purpose of Position
The Nurse Advocacy Center for the Underserved's (NACU) mission is to improve the health of the underserved of Northern Kentucky by reducing health disparities. Due to the health disparities that exist, it is important to provide greater equity and access to vaccination education, outreach, and community engagement.

The overall aim of the Kentucky Department for Public Health grant project "Promoting Immunizations in the Underserved Populations of NKY Through NACU" is to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate the project using CDC's "partnering for Vaccine Equity" program.

The immunization team will consist of two registered nurses (part-time), one community health worker/vaccine ambassador (full time) plus 50% of an existing NACU RN's time to implement the plan. The immunization outreach workplan is required.
Primary Responsibilities
  • Continually assess the NKY community for possible immunization outreach opportunities for the underserved population of Boone, Campbell, Kenton, and Grant counties.
  • Continually assess NKY community partners willing to collaborate on outreach events for the project.
  • Host weekly immunization events throughout NKY in collaboration with community partners.
  • Provide weekly educational campaigns to increase immunization awareness through NACU clinics and community events.
  • Attend assigned immunization training through national, state (KDPH), and local Northern Kentucky Health Department trainings.
  • Order supplies for outreach events through assigned NKU staff, keep track of inventory, and immunization supply.
  • Assist in developing an equitable immunization policy to be integrated into the NACU program.
  • Assist in developing marketing material for outreach events in person, online, and through social media to mitigate vaccine misinformation.
  • Complete monthly documentation of outreach activities per grant requirements.
  • Create a database for tracking outreach events and community partners.
