Job Description

Inova Schar and Cancer is seeking a dedicated Retail Pharmacist to join the team.

The Retail Pharmacist is responsible for assessing and monitoring the needs and progress of patients regarding drug therapy while providing education and information to patients, families, team members, physicians, and the community. Fills and verifies medication orders while assessing, planning, implementing, evaluating, and documenting the care of patients/populations served. Participates in patient care which is appropriate to the patients' age, diagnosis, symptoms, and physician orders, while following established policies and procedures. Ensures compliance with all applicable laws and regulations related to Pharmacy operations while providing functional supervision of professional, paraprofessional and support staff.

This is a Fulltime various shifts position. PGY-1 residency required.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Prepares and manages the process of reviewing medications, interpreting physician orders, detecting therapeutic incompatibilities, and delivering medications to patients and consumers.
  • Provides compassionate and pharmacological information by answering questions and requests of healthcare professionals, patients, families, and respective caregivers.
  • Dispenses medications by compounding, packaging, and labeling pharmaceuticals.
  • Controls medications by monitoring drug therapies and advising interventions.
  • Completes Pharmacy operational requirements by organizing/directing technicians' work flows, verifying their preparation/labeling of pharmaceuticals and verifying order entries, charges, and inspections.
  • Complies with state and federal drug laws as regulated by the state Board of Pharmacy, the Drug Enforcement Administration and the Food and Drug Administration.
  • Monitors nursing unit inspections, maintains records for controlled substances, removes outdated and damaged drugs from the Pharmacy inventory, supervises the work results of support personnel, maintains current registration, studies existing/new legislation and advises management on needed actions.
  • Maintains pharmacological knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, and participating in professional societies.
  • Maintains a safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.

Qualifications:

Experience:

  • Three (3) years working in as a Pharmacist.
  • PGY- 1 Residency required.

Education:

  • Bachelors degree in Pharmacy.

Certifications:

  • Licensed Pharmacist in the state of VA.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) - American Heart Association within 3 months of hire.
