Product Design Lead, Manager level (Travel Design Team)

About the Travel Design Team:

The travel design team is at the forefront of enriching customers' digital and physical experiences within all parts of Capital One Travel Business - Travel Bookings, Luxury travel experiences, airport experiences, and emerging verticals. Travel design is a full stack design team including, strategists, product designers (UX/UI), content and research SMEs. In our day to day we partner closely with all aspects of the business and experience including: product, tech, insights, marketing, legal, risk, compliance, brand, creative, and accessibility teams.

We work and create experiences with a "start up" mentality in a self driven, and highly motivated space. Guided by our shared values we thrive on collaboration and perspective driven design leadership. In a given week you may be working on broader level customer journeys and participating in workshops, managing the experience quality of our core booking experiences, and preparing high fidelity designs for delivery and or our executive vision share outs.

We are looking for a Manager level, Product Designer, to help build the future of Capital One Travel with our travel partners such as Hopper, a leading booking fintech company. This Manager Product Designer role will both support developing a world-class experience design strategy for our customers and design cutting edge travel solutions.

What You'll Do:

As a leader and maker, you'll be asked to handle responsibilities, including:

Strategy & Planning

  • Collaborating with technology, product, marketing, and business teams to uncover customer and business needs - then translating them into intuitive and engaging digital experiences

  • Translating complex ideas into understandable concepts that evolve and enhance the product experience

  • Engaging in portfolio prioritization to help set the strategy and product road map for the team

  • Managing through shifting priorities to provide clear direction and input on product prioritization and support early product definition

  • Advocating for the customer through human-centered design methods, including: discovery, research sketch sessions, and user testing

  • Championing prioritization of design centered product enhancements grounded in research and analysis

  • Working with partners and teams across various geographies

Discovery & Delivery

  • Supporting early product definition by working with partners to facilitate discovery sessions that uncover customer pain points and opportunities

  • Demonstrating familiarity with design tools to deliver concepts and enable successful collaboration across teams

  • Driving end-to-end product design by:

    • Working with researchers to understand customer needs and define opportunities through usability and empathy studies

    • Framing problems, defining insights, and designing new methodologies/practices to serve customer needs

    • Creating process and user flows, wireframes, journey maps, and interaction models, resulting in low to high fidelity prototypes

    • Planning and facilitating workshops with internal and external stakeholders to align with business needs

    • Designing within existing - and creating new - standards to contribute to our internal design system, best practices, and guidelines

    • Storytelling and presenting visual concepts to various stakeholders

    • Creating high fidelity design assets for acceptance, development, and delivery to market in partnership with technology, compliance, and product partners

    • Identifying, sharing, and scaling design patterns and practices across the broader organization

    • Working with external partners to enable them to deliver high quality experience solutions that live up to the highest standards

Collaboration & Connection

  • Serving as a trusted advisor, confidential thought partner, and act as a sounding board to senior leadership

  • Thinking through challenges and brainstorming potential solutions

  • Evangelizing the impact of design with business partners by embracing and advocating for an experience design mindset

  • Anticipating and cultivate open communication channels between senior leadership and designers

  • Handling oversight of special projects that don't fit into traditional workstreams. Be nimble to pivots and make the necessary trade-offs to support product delivery

  • Identifying and rallying support for strategic projects that go beyond roadmap initiatives.

  • Managing difficult situations and hard conversations; showing a high level of discretion, professional maturity, resilience, and adaptability

Basic Qualifications

  • At least 5 years of experience with UX product design, and design strategy

  • At least 5 years of experience with design and prototyping tools, such as Figma

  • At least 4 years of experience working with cross-functional teams and managing partner relationships

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience effectively planning and leading meeting events (e.g., trainings, ideation sessions, alignment meetings) requiring participation from multiple stakeholders

  • Comfortable working with a variety of business partners and delivering outcomes

  • Self starter push forward-thinking strategy for next gen business levers

  • Experience working and contributing to and established design system

The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role are listed below, by location. Please note that this salary information is solely for candidates hired to perform work within one of these locations, and refers to the amount Capital One is willing to pay at the time of this posting. Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated based upon the agreed upon number of hours to be regularly worked.

New York City (Hybrid On-Site): $163,300 - $186,400 for Manager, Design

Candidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range associated with that location, and the actual annualized salary amount offered to any candidate at the time of hire will be reflected solely in the candidate's offer letter.

This role is also eligible to earn performance based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonus(es) and/or long term incentives (LTI). Incentives could be discretionary or non discretionary depending on the plan.
