We are seeking a Sr. Manager - Staff Product Designer to join our team, influencing and crafting the future of our Enterprise Data experiences. As an individual contributor, you'll play a crucial role in shaping the user experience and visual design of our platforms that serve our internal data users. You'll be responsible for delivering high-quality design solutions meeting user needs and business objectives, as we aim to deliver quality experiences for Capital One associates that match or exceed those of popular consumer-grade platforms and services.

What You'll Do:

You'll be asked to handle a variety of responsibilities, including:

Collaboration & Connection:

  • Collaborating closely with cross-functional teams, including ux designers, product managers, engineers and data scientists to create interfaces aligning with customer experience needs and visually translating them into transformative, intuitive, user friendly and on-brand interfaces that evolve and enhance the product interface

  • Advocating for the customer through human centered design methodologies, including: discovery, ideation, whiteboard sessions, and user testing

  • Supporting and leading design led workshops to engage and build alignment across different partners and teams

  • Championing prioritization of design centered product enhancements grounded in research and analysis

  • Mentoring designers of varying levels of experience and skills, contributing to the design team's growth and continued development of design craft.

  • Working with partners and teams across various geographies

  • Embracing and advocating for an experience mindset - this is as important to the work as the results

Discovery & Delivery

  • Leading and defining near and future-state vision by working with partners to facilitate discovery sessions that uncover customer pain points and opportunities

  • Hands-on designing intuitive and engaging user interfaces for our data platforms and experiences, incorporating advanced and effective data visualization techniques to simplify complex datasets and insights for users.

  • Developing and implementing design system strategies that result in improved data accessibility, user satisfaction, and a healthier data ecosystem

  • Actively evaluating and contributing new and improved styles, icons, patterns, style guides, and documentation to the design system that can be leveraged by teams

  • Participating in end-to-end product design by:

    • Working with researchers to understand customer needs and interpreting information into visual forms that are impactful and intuitive

    • Framing problems, determining insights, and defining visual designs to serve customer needs

  • Proactively lead and drive project work, identifying where you can drive the most impact and where you can delegate to other designers

  • Ideating, creating, and delivering low to high fidelity prototypes

  • Designing within existing - and creating new - standards to contribute to our internal design system, best practices, and guidelines

  • Storytelling and presenting visual concepts to various stakeholders

  • Creating high fidelity design assets for acceptance, development, and delivery to market in partnership with technology colleagues

Basic Qualifications

  • 8+ years of experience in product design, with a strong portfolio showcasing your work, including examples of design system projects

  • Excellent interaction design skills, and the ability to translate complex data or enterprise concepts into visually appealing and compelling user interfaces.

  • Comfortable working with a variety of business partners, and design collaborators, and delivering outcomes


Preferred Qualifications

  • Mastery of design and prototyping tools, such as: Figma, Sketch and/or Adobe Creative Suite

  • Experience in front end languages and tooling such as: Angular, React, Web Components, and Design System Tokens

  • Familiarity creating and contributing to established design systems

The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role are listed below, by location. Please note that this salary information is solely for candidates hired to perform work within one of these locations, and refers to the amount Capital One is willing to pay at the time of this posting. Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated based upon the agreed upon number of hours to be regularly worked.

San Francisco, California (Hybrid On-Site): $210,900 - $240,700 for Sr. Manager, Design

Candidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range associated with that location, and the actual annualized salary amount offered to any candidate at the time of hire will be reflected solely in the candidate's offer letter.

This role is also eligible to earn performance based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonus(es) and/or long term incentives (LTI). Incentives could be discretionary or non discretionary depending on the plan.
