Job Description

The H&S Family of Bakeries are a network of 10 bakeries and multiple distribution centers along the East Coast, all committed to one thing: producing the best quality bread products possible. H&S Family of Bakeries includes Northeast Foods, H&S Bakery and Schmidt Baking Co. Together, our baked goods can be found in a wide range of establishments, from fast food and quick service restaurants to cafeterias, hospitals, grocery stores and universities.

We are in search of candidates interested in breaking into the field of Human Resources who are open to learn and ready to grow their HR knowledge. This role supports a fast-paced environment that requires forward thinking, planning, and timely execution of tasks.

Important Information about the Role:

Schedule: Monday - Friday

Hours: 10:30a - 4:30p

PTO: Accrues one (1) hour of Paid Time Off per 30 hours worked

Benefits are not offered through this role

Job Summary:

The Human Resources Assistant plays a crucial role in ensuring the smooth functioning of the organization's human resources department by undertaking essential administrative tasks and services. This position involves maintaining accurate records, providing support to employees, and facilitating various HR processes.

Role & Responsibilities:

  • Keep our human resource files and documentation, ensuring they're accurate and up-to-date.
  • Field and tackle the frequently asked questions from applicants and employees, offering insights into policies, benefits, and hiring processes. Escalate the more complex inquiries to our seasoned HR staff or management.
  • Safeguard the integrity and confidentiality of our human resource files and records like a guardian of a secret recipe.
  • Conduct periodic audits of HR files to ensure that all the necessary documents are collected and filed correctly, just like following a recipe to perfection.
  • Provide clerical support to our fantastic HR department, making their lives easier and more efficient.
  • Act as the liaison between our organization and external benefits providers and vendors. Communicate on matters related to health, disability, and retirement plans with flair.
  • Play a key role in the hiring process by initiating pre-screening procedures, conducting new hire orientations, and being the welcoming face for our new team members.
  • Issue employee photo identification cards, turning our workplace into a community where everyone is recognized.
  • Be the go-to person for FMLA information, especially for those employees requiring FMLA during leaves on STD, WC, or FMLA only.
  • Review eligible candidates for the 401k plan quarterly and be the guiding star for employees with 401k-related requests.
  • Handle new accident reports and post safety notices in the plant, making sure our workplace is as safe and secure as a well-baked loaf.
  • Take charge of ordering office supplies and training materials, ensuring everyone has the tools they need to succeed.
  • Tackle the influx of mail - retrieve, open, review, and bravely purge junk mail.
  • Play a vital role in planning and executing special events such as benefits enrollment, organization-wide meetings, employee recognition events, holiday parties, and retirement celebrations.

  • Embrace additional duties as assigned, showcasing your versatility and commitment to our plant family.

Education: - High School Diploma required.

Requirements & Physical Demands:

  • Showcase excellent verbal and written communication skills, making you a communication maestro.
  • Flaunt outstanding interpersonal skills, handling sensitive situations with tact, professionalism, and diplomacy.
  • Demonstrate strong organizational skills and attention to detail - you're the one who spots that missing ingredient.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite or related software is second nature.
  • Be proficient with, or ready to quickly learn, payroll management, human resource information system (HRIS), and similar computer applications.
  • Prior related office experience is a bonus.
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Physically capable of moving to all areas of the plant.
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
