Planned Parenthood of Metropolitan Washington, DC (PPMW), is seeking a passionate and creative Health Education Coordinator to join our Education Team. The Health Education Coordinator is responsible for overseeing PPMW's peer education initiative and supporting efforts to expand sex education programming throughout Washington, DC, Maryland (Montgomery and Prince George's counties), and Northern Virginia. This position is based out of our DC office but entails a hybrid work arrangement.

Requirements

  • Reports to the Associate Director of Education and serves on the Education team
  • Manages the PPMW peer education program, including recruiting, hiring, and training peer educators; planning the orientation and peer educator conference; and implementing the program curriculum
  • Develops and implements high-quality education programs about a broad range of SRH and/or human sexuality topics and that are culturally sensitive, medically accurate, sex-positive, and age-appropriate
  • Assists in planning and implementing other PPMW education programs and activities for youth, parents/guardians, and adults across various settings, including in-person and online
  • Employs innovative, flexible learning models and facilitation techniques to engage various audiences
  • Collects and maintains records on program expenses, participant demographics, event attendance, fidelity logs, invoices, and participant surveys
  • Routinely enters program data into the PPMW database in a timely manner
  • Represents PPMW at conferences, health fairs, community meetings, coalitions, and other public forms as well as serves on PPMW committees, task forces, and working groups as assigned
  • Conducts ongoing outreach to increase organizational visibility and expand program reach
  • Establishes community partnerships and converts them into education sites
  • Works collaboratively with community-based organizations, churches, government agencies, and schools to enhance service delivery
  • Remains abreast of emerging issues related to youth, SRH, and adolescent health
  • Provides informational support, including referrals to SRH services as needed
  • Participates in planning and staffing community outreach events
  • Contributes to grant reports and performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • BA/BS degree in human services, public or community health, psychology, or social work is preferred
  • At least two years of experience with demonstrated expertise in youth development, SRH programming and services, and/or health education
  • Knowledge of and commitment to reproductive justice; race, gender, and health equity; positive youth development principles; the principles and practices of public health, and the related cultural, social, and economic factors
  • Must have experience and be comfortable working with people of different races, ethnicities, sexual and gender identities and expressions, ages, abilities, and experiences
  • Requires excellent verbal and written communication, listening, and interpersonal skills, with an emphasis on presentation and public speaking skills
  • Candidate must also possess the following skills: attention to detail, resourcefulness, record keeping, customer service, problem-solving, time management, conflict resolution, computer literacy, and the ability to set priorities and meet competing deadlines
  • Passionate about working with youth and/or on issues related to youth
  • Able to effectively function independently as well as collaboratively within a diverse work environment
  • Must have own transportation, a valid driver's license, and be able to travel within and around MD, VA, and DC
  • Must be able to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends
  • Experience developing program curriculum, as well as conducting presentations and/or facilitating workshops, preferably related to SRH and/or human sexuality

Language Skills

Ability to read, analyze and interpret productivity reports industry periodicals government regulations and legal documents along with the ability to effectively present information to staff at all lev ls of the affiliate and the board of directors. Must have the ability to write reports, business correspondences, and procedure manuals. Requires excellent verbal and written communication skills, including listening and interpersonal relationship communication skills as well as coaching and collaboration. This must include strong presentation and public speaking skills with the ability to interact with a diverse group of staff and internal and external customers appropriately and professionally, including PPMW's Board of Directors.


Mathematical Skills

Must possess the ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Requires ability to interpret basic financial data and communicate implications to managers. Must have the ability to develop and manage a budget, including elements of cost analysis, cost management and revenue forecasting.


Computer Skills

Excellent keyboarding skills with high level of accuracy required. Must ha e demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office, possess capacity to learn software programs required for specific position and must be able to access electronic communications, including e-mail, Extranet, Intranet, and Internet.

? Noise levels in the work environment is usually moderate.

? The position may require frequent travel to multiple sites. Employee must provide own reliable transportation and possess a valid driver's license for the performance of agency duties
