Senior Technical Writer

BlackSky is looking for an experienced technical writer to produce high-quality technical documentation for implementation of our product and platform for our customers. As an ideal candidate, you have proven experience in a highly technical field, such as software development, computer science, or engineering. This position will have a large system integration focus. A successful candidate will be comfortable working in an autonomous position. This role reports to the Vice President of Strategic Capture and we would prefer candidates near our Herndon, VA office but will also consider remote candidates in certain states.

Responsibilities:

• Design, develop, and implement customized technical documents.
• Perform writing tasks for technical documents, such as user manuals, installation manuals, help documents, and tutorials.
• Gather information about needs, objectives, functions, features, and requirements.
• Disseminate technical information in easy-to-understand language for a non-technical audience.
• Create software documentation after a thorough collaboration with subject matter experts and technical staff.
• Partner with and write documentation for internal teams such as developers and programmers.
• Work with development and support leads to identify all documentation repositories, revise and edit, and determine the best solution for data compilation and centralized storage.
• Other job-related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in English, Writing, information systems, Information Technology, Computer Science, or other related disciplines.
• Minimum of five years writing technical documentation.
• Understand and explain complex technical concepts, prior work in highly technical environments.
• Strong research and analytical skills.
• Ability to discern priorities and deliver on deadlines.
• Excellent technical writing and verbal communication skills, high attention to detail.
• Ability to quickly grasp complex technical concepts and make them easily understandable in text and pictures.
• Strong working knowledge of MS Office.
• Must be a US-born citizen.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience working with colleagues in multiple time zones.
• Prior experience working with systems integration projects.
• Previous software development experience.
• Prior experience supporting government contracts.
• Hold an active secret clearance or higher.

The anticipated salary range for candidates in Seattle, WA is $125,000-145,000 per year. The final compensation package offered to a successful candidate will be dependent on specific background and education. BlackSky is a multi-state employer and this pay scale may not reflect salary ranges in other states or locations outside of Seattle, WA.
