Job Description

ENERGY SYSTEMS GROUP is seeking an Assistant Controller to become a key contributor for a rapidly growing team, with a fast-track opportunity to move into the Controller role. This position is onsite at our Corporate Office in Newburgh, Indiana.

The Assistant Controller will assist the Controller in directing the accounting functions including revenue recognition, payables, and reporting. The position is responsible for contributing to the development and maintenance of financial reporting, SOX compliance, overseeing the preparation of periodic reporting and required filings and ensuring that our accounting policies and procedures are documented and followed. Additional responsibilities may include involvement in the assessment of and financial integration of potential acquisitions.

The essential functions of the position include:

  • Supports the accounting close processes monthly, quarterly, and annually, following internal control procedures to ensure proper accounting and to protect the company's assets
  • Perform and support general ledger analytics and variance analysis
  • Assist the Controller with managing the Project Accounting function, including quarterly estimate revisions, to ensure that revenue recognition and other GAAP reporting requirements are followed
  • Participate in planning and coordinating the annual financial audit with external auditors, including assembly of requested data and ensuring staff understands responsibilities relative to supporting the audit
  • Interface with ESG's parent company regarding monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting
  • Assist with compliance testing of SOX controls, and ensure that control expectations are properly communicated and understood
  • Participate in all aspects of tax compliance, including working with external tax preparers to provide accurate and timely tax support workpapers
  • Research new accounting pronouncements and analyze the impact on ESG
  • Active role in due diligence and analysis of potential acquisitions, and their integration to include all aspects of accounting and financial reporting
  • Demonstrate personal integrity, teamwork, and alignment to all corporate values

Your background includes:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business Administration, or Finance
  • Certified Public Accountant (active license)
  • 7 or more years of relevant accounting/finance experience managing finance and accounting staff and programs (preferably for a medium to large size organization)

A bonus to have:

  • Previous experience in Construction environment
  • Master's degree
  • Experience with mergers and acquisitions
