Overview

KCI is looking for a motivated Junior Design Engineer to join our Water Resources team in Sparks, MD. Typical work assignments include: hydrologic & hydraulic modeling; drainage / stormwater management / erosion and sediment control design; NPDES MS4 support services; restoration work in support of local TMDLs and Chesapeake Bay Restoration; and construction inspection. The Engineer will perform a variety of engineering tasks relative to transportation design and stormwater restoration projects under the supervision of senior-level engineers. The diversity of responsibilities requires a flexible mindset and cooperative team-oriented attitude with progressively increasing technical capabilities.

Duties, Responsibilities & Other

Duties & Responsibilities:

    Develop engineering design and hydrologic/hydraulic studies for various water resources infrastructure projects. Projects include: drainage improvement, stormwater management, sediment control, floodplain, stream and shoreline restoration, coastal resiliency, etc.
  • Preparation of construction drawings, specifications, cost estimates and technical plans for projects.
  • Participates in technical studies, prepares design reports and permitting applications.
  • Participates in field reconnaissance, including preparation of field observation reports.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • EIT certification required or the ability to obtain it within 1 year.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, MicroStation and/or AutoCAD required.
  • HEC-RAS, ArcGIS, Civil3D, InRoads, and/or OpenRoads Designer experience preferred.
  • Strong technical and professional communication skills.
  • Excellent time management skills.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree required. Appropriate professional certification preferred.
  • Minimum of 0-2 year's experience.
  • Pre-employment drug screening is a condition of employment. Background and motor vehicle checks may be required based upon
Performance Expectations
  • Complete Annual Individual Training Program
  • Train adequate backup personnel to support your role in your absence
  • Comply with all KCI policies and procedures
  • Ensure projects fulfill ISO compliance requirements
  • Complete other duties as required/assigned
  • Achieve or exceed budgeted individual utilization target(80-85% typical)
  • Attend bi-weekly(or more frequently as necessary) meetings with project team on all projects/tasks
  • Complete all tasks on time and within budget while fully meeting the scope
  • Consult and coordinate with other practices and sub-consultants as required
  • Operate within specified (corporate or project) budget parameters
  • Compare field data to base plan
  • Conduct site visits and gather data, including measurements, sketches, notes and photographs as needed
  • Prepare design calculations, drawings, specifications and cost estimates for review and approval
  • Prepare preliminary concept designs and submit for approval
  • Read and interpret technical documents needed for performance of job
  • Review and approve shop drawings
