Luna is seeking a Director of SEC Reporting and Technical Accounting.

This role will report to the Vice President & Corporate Controller and will be a key contributor to Finance department.

Role Responsibilities

  • The Director of SEC Reporting and Technical Accounting is a key leadership role responsible for overseeing accurate and timely financial reporting while ensuring compliance with SEC and US GAAP requirements.
  • The Director will lead the external financial reporting process, which includes the preparation and filling of the Company's Form 10-Q, Form 10-K, and other financial filings, and coordinating the internal and external reviews.
  • This role will partner closely with the Assistant Controller to ensure an efficient transition from the accounting close and consolidation to the external reporting process.
  • This individual will collaborate closely with the cross-functional accounting teams and external auditors to address technical accounting and reporting matters, drive process improvements, enhance efficiency and effectiveness, and ensure adherence to SEC regulations.
  • Possess strong technical accounting skills with extensive knowledge of US GAAP and SEC reporting standards.
  • Responsible for preparing completing GAAP and SEC checklists.
  • Research guidance, prepare accounting memos, and work with external auditors to align on key areas, inc.
  • Lead the company's implementation of new accounting standards by evaluating the impact of new and emerging accounting standards.
  • Establish solid working relationships with key personnel in other departments and external providers, fostering a collaborative environment.
  • Collaborate closely with the revenue, operational and legal teams on the review of sales contracts to understand and communicate potential accounting implications of non-standard contract terms.
  • Manage the quarter-end and year-end certification process and activities required for compliance.
  • Participate in quarterly earnings process, including review of earnings release scripts, preparing supporting financials and other related support.
  • Contribute to the preparation of Luna's annual proxy statement and Section 16 filings.
  • Stay abreast of accounting implications for new corporate initiatives, ensuring that SEC reporting accurately reflects the company's evolving business model and activities, and the business is appropriately informed of those accounting implications.
  • Champion process improvements and efficiency, leveraging technology as needed to enhance the SEC reporting processes and procedures.
  • Develop and maintain corporate accounting policies to ensure the adequacy and effectiveness of internal controls over financial reporting.
  • Monitor emerging guidance from regulators and financial reporting trends within the industry to proactively communicate impact to leadership.
  • Support special projects as necessary.

Required Qualifications

  • 10 years of public accounting / public company experience
  • CPA
  • Strong understanding of US GAAP, SEC Regulations, and best-practice financial reporting processes
  • SEC filing software (e.g., Workiva)

Location

  • East coast preferred with occasional travel (10-15%) to Roanoke, VA and Atlanta, GA locations.
