Job Description

The US Census Bureau (USCB) is undergoing a digital transformation in preparation for the 2030 Decennial Census and seeks to integrate advanced technologies and techniques to enhance and scale up the Decennial System of Systems (SoS). The 2030 Decennial Census program will grow to become one of the largest, most innovative Federal Civilian production environments within AWS GovCloud. T-Rex Solutions LLC seeks two Data Science SMEs / Senior Software Developers with a strong background in data science and hands-on software development to drive the creation of sophisticated data linkage and matching applications to enhance the functionality and efficiency of the Decennial SoS.

Responsibilities:

  • Data Science Engineering: Lead initiatives in data linkage and matching, ensuring the design and implementation of algorithms meet technical requirements and performance expectations.
  • Model Verification and Process Optimization: Review and analyze model output against technical requirements, provide actionable feedback, and recommend process enhancements to boost data verification efficiency.
  • Legacy Conversion and Optimization: Convert and optimize existing data processing modules and queries from legacy systems such as SAS/STATA to PySpark for improved performance and scalability in cluster-based environments.
  • Collaborative Development and Innovation: Work closely with other data scientists and software developers to brainstorm, design, and develop new data processing approaches and solutions. Provide hands-on code development for new approaches. Engage in continuous improvement activities to enhance model verification and performance.
  • Technology Integration and Support: Assist application engineering and DevOps teams with the deployment of data science packages, addressing technical issues as they arise. Set up and customize Spark and other development environments to meet project requirements.
  • Documentation and Maintenance: Manage and maintain the code base, datasets, and documentation associated with data analysis to ensure compliance with project specifications and security standards.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate with stakeholders to define technical directions and update project requirements, ensuring alignment with the broader goals of USCB.

Requirements:

  • Education and Experience: Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, or a related field, with at least 12 years of relevant experience in a high-stakes, data-centric environments.
  • Technical Expertise: Proven expertise in Python, PySpark, and familiarity with legacy systems such as SAS/STATA. Strong foundation in AWS cloud-native services and solutions, with a solid track record of developing and deploying advanced data-driven applications.
  • Data Science Proficiency: Extensive knowledge in data modeling, analysis, large-scale data processing, data mining, and verification, with a demonstrated ability to lead data science projects and develop new algorithms.
  • Security and Compliance: US Citizenship and the ability to obtain a Department of Commerce Public Trust clearance.

Desired Skills:

  • Industry Experience: Experience with USCB and AWS technologies highly desirable.
  • Advanced Data Handling: Proven capability in data engineering or data science, with hands-on experience using AWS SageMaker and other industry-standard data analytics tools.
  • Professional Strengths: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, excellent communication abilities, and a demonstrated leadership in managing complex, data-centric development projects from start to finish.

In compliance with pay transparency guidelines, the annual base salary range for this position is $150,000 - $230,000. Please note that the salary information is a general guideline only. T-Rex considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as market and business considerations when extending an offer.
