Job Description

Inova L.J. Murphy Children's Hospital is seeking a Pediatric Advance Practice Provider (APP)to work full time in the Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (PCICU). The PCICU is a 12-bed, dedicated Unit staffed by pediatric cardiac intensivists, specially trained nurses, respiratory therapists, clinical pharmacist, nutritionist, child life specialists, physical therapists, occupational therapists, speech therapists, case managers and social workers. The APP will evaluate, diagnose, and treat cardiac medical patients as well as pre- and post-operative/catheterization cardiac patients, under the direction of the pediatric cardiac intensivist. Central to the role, the APP will assist in developing and implementing plans of care for all patients in the PCICU and participate in protocol/guideline development. The APP functions in collaboration with a multi-disciplinary cardiac team, while also providing consultation and education to patients and their families.

The PCICU at Inova L.J. Murphy Children's Hospital is an integral part of the Heart Center that has been caring for the children of Northern Virginia and the Greater Washington Region for more than 30 years. Each year, the program is responsible for more than 550 procedures. The program provides surgical repair of the most complex congenital heart defects, including hypoplastic left heart syndrome. In addition to providing care for children with complex congenital anomalies, the program is able to provide a lifetime of care as part of the Inova Schar Heart and Vascular, which includes the Adult Congenital Program. Inova Children's Hospital consistently outperforms national benchmarks in surgical survival, surgical site infections, and hospital acquired infections. A 22-bed Pediatric Specialty Care Unit provides specialized care to patients stepping down from ICU level care.

The Inova Children's Hospital is the only dedicated children's hospital in Northern Virginia. The Inova Children's Hospital provides care in a welcoming hospital that offers the latest in technical innovation in kid-friendly spaces to include:

  • 226-bed pediatric hospital with all private rooms
  • 108-bed, level IV Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) with private and semiprivate rooms
  • 14-bed, all-private Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU),
  • 12 bed, Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care Unit, each extra corporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) capable

Requirements:

  1. Master's degree in Pediatric Advance Practice Provider studies from an accredited program
  2. Active VA RN/APP License
  3. Acute Care Certification by Pediatric Nursing Certification Board
  4. BLS/ACLS and PALS certification
  5. Ability to work a flexible schedule, 12-hour shifts, days, nights, weekends and holidays
  6. Pediatric cardiac experience preferred
