Job Description

Fearless is looking for an Accountant Assistant to add to our diverse team of 250+ employees (and counting!).

What you'll be doing

As an Accountant Assistant, you will play a key role in supporting the financial operations of our organization, including handling accounts payable, treasury, and payroll functions for the organization. Working closely with the Senior Accountant, your responsibilities will include processing accounts payable, running payroll, preparing financial statements, maintaining accurate financial records, including the general ledger, and ensuring compliance with accounting principles, laws, and payroll policies. This position will report to the Director of Finance and is an excellent opportunity for a detail-oriented and motivated individual to gain hands-on experience in finance and accounting.

Responsibilities and Contributions Organizational and Leadership Role
  • Support the Senior Accountant in process improvements to ensure timely monthly closing of books.
  • Support the payroll process for the Finance Department.
  • Lead on Accounts Payable for the company
  • Identify process improvements for a fast-growing tech company.
Functional Role

Overall:

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger entries, and bank reconciliations.
  • Maintain accurate and organized payroll records and financial transactions

Accountant:

  • Assist in and maintain recording transactions in the general ledger.
  • Prepare journal entries and reconcile accounts regularly.
  • Invoice Processing: Receive and review invoices from vendors, verifying accuracy, and ensuring appropriate authorization for payment.
  • Payment Processing: Prepare and process payments to vendors, including checks, electronic transfers, and ACH payments, in accordance with payment terms and deadlines.
  • Vendor Management: Maintain vendor records, including contact information, payment terms, and payment history. Communicate with vendors regarding payment inquiries, discrepancies, and other related matters.
  • Expense Reporting: Process employee expense reports, ensuring compliance with company policies and verifying supporting documentation.
  • Account Reconciliation: Reconcile accounts payable transactions with vendor statements and internal records to ensure accuracy and resolve discrepancies.
  • Reporting: Assist in the preparation of reports and analysis related to accounts payable, such as aging reports, cash flow projections, and accruals.
  • Reconcile bank statements and resolve any discrepancies.
  • Assist in tracking and categorizing expenses, including troubleshooting in Unanet, Fearless' ERP.
  • Utilize accounting and payroll software (Unanet and Paylocity) effectively.

Payroll:

  • Process payment of payroll.
  • Collect and verify timekeeping information from employees.
  • Update payroll records with relevant tax withholdings, direct deposit, and other payroll-related data changes.
  • Prepare and submit payroll tax reports as required.
  • Maintain accurate and organized payroll records.

Customer Service:

  • Supporting Fearless team members with questions about expense reimbursement, timesheets, and other items managed in Unanet.
  • Support the Unanet help desk service by responding to and resolving team members' questions.
Essential Skills and Experience

Must-Have Skills

  • 3-5 years of directly related experience.
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Proven experience as a Payroll Clerk or in a similar role.
  • Knowledge of payroll processes, tax regulations, and relevant software.
  • Strong proficiency in data entry and attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of basic accounting principles and practices.
  • Familiarity with accounting software, Microsoft Excel, and/or Google Sheets.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in data entry.
  • Strong communication, multitasking, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
  • Experience processing payroll for 25 employees or greater.
  • Skilled experience in spreadsheet analysis utilizing Google Sheets and/or Microsoft Excel.
  • Experience with accounts payable.

Icing-on-the-Cake Skills

  • The ideal candidate lives within a 2-hour radius of Baltimore, Maryland HQ
  • Paylocity and Unanet expertise are preferred but not required
  • Eagerness to learn and develop in the field of accounting.

Our salary ranges are determined based on role, level and location and provide team members salary growth within a salary grade over time. Team members automatically progress within a salary range through annual increases (given to reward service at Fearless) or merit increases (given to reward and individual's demonstrated performance and growth within the position). Fearless team members are also eligible for discretionary bonuses based on company performance.

The salary ranges for this position based on location are listed below. The base pay range is subject to change and may be modified as a part of our annual salary range review.

  • Zone 1 - AL, FL, GA, TN Residents: $55,060 (min) - $68,825 (mid) - $82,590 (max)
  • Zone 2 - NC Residents, National Average: $56,763 (min) - $70,954 (mid) - $85,145 (max)
  • Zone 3 - DE, MD, PA, TX, VA Residents: $59,601 (min) - $74,502 (mid) - $89,402 (max)
  • Zone 5 - DC Residents: $66,980 (min) - $83,726 (mid) - $100,471 (max)
  • Zone 6 - CA, NY, NJ Residents: $69,251 (min) - $86,564 (mid) - $103,877 (max)

Within the range, starting pay for team members is based on the evaluation of the alignment with the position description requirements including job-related skills and experience or training. This range reflects your earning potential over the course of your career at Fearless in this position.
