Pharmacy Technician I - Outpatient Pharmacy

The Outpatient Pharmacy Technician I aids the pharmacist in the processing of prescription orders along with preparation and dispensing of patient medications within the three outpatient pharmacies. This is an entry level position.

Schedule: (Full time, Benefits Eligible)

Typical Hours: As early as 7:30am and as late as 7:00pm. Rotating every 4th weekend and rotating holidays.

Responsibilities
    Accepts prescriptions, establishes billing/patient charges, documents patients' allergies correctly, interprets and enters information regarding the outpatient prescription into the computer system.
  • Prepares and packages injectable and oral medication for outpatient use.
  • Independently resolves on-line adjudication problems with Third Party Payors without pharmacist intervention.
  • Maintains the cleanliness and neatness of the outpatient pharmacy.
  • Replenishes pharmacy stock area and notifies pharmacist or inventory coordinators of concerns.
  • Utilizes math and problem-solving skills (i.e. algebra) to calculate amount of drug needed for preparation of prescriptions.
Qualifications

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

Education:

  • High school diploma or equivalent

Licensure:

  • Board of Pharmacy Technician License (Registered or Certified)

Certifications:

  • Certification as a pharmacy technician or documented passing score on certification exam prior to start date (CPhT, ExCPT)

Skills:

  • Demonstrated skills in algebra by passing score on math competency administered on site

Experience:

  • Six months of previous pharmacy experience preferred
